my "81 has never had the shocks replaced and rides hard as a cement truck. Rear replacements are available from DMC but they do not have the fronts available any more. Any suggestions on readily available substitutions?

Remind me about the last car that came in with generic shocks spaced by a handful of washers on the lower mount. I don't think we'd ever had to torch out the lower shock bolt before . . .

The correct ones use either the correct length tube or a set of hard spacers. A stack of washers rusts into something that will not let go of the bolt.

Be kind to your future owner.

i know there are not oem replacements but the spax shocks any vendor carries are a great choice.

I have been running cross reference shocks and although they are cheaper, you have to replace them very frequently. Not really worth the hassle, my next replacement will be the delorean ones that are designed for our application.
