31303After much internal discussion this system is being offered to owners as a diy bolt on upgrade. The system is designed to force the removal of K jet so a efi system is required. (also available from DPI). This kit is designed for owners who are looking for a considerable increase in power over stock while having the ability to install for themselves. Introductory price of $7995.00 for first ten systems in stock.

What's the cost for an EFI kit?

Here is our EFI offering:

I stay away from "cheap options" like mega squirt etc and stick with our high end offering. Includes all required components, crank trigger system, fuel rails, regulator, braided lines, bosch long nose injectors with correct spray pattern,. fully integrated stepper iac configuration etc. The nice thing about this turbo system is that it doesn't take the car to an extreme. The SPEC II package is an all out integrated assembly which relies on components up to the challenge. For the DIY guys out there megasquirt configurations will work just fine with this intro kit.

For DIY guys I understand that megasquirt is more "user friendly" with a loyal following. That is great for Diy owners but we needed to stick with something of a higher caliber. We have comprehensive tunes available for every configuration possible. There is absolutely no street tuning performed here. Every system has been developed first on our closed cell engine dyno followed by countless hours of tweaking and further development on our chassis dyno.

Not listed in the kit description but on the turbo systems we supply a base fuel map for owners to start the car with. With every engine being different tweaking is always required for maximum results.

Josh,

from your turbo description, you quote an increase in whp from 89 to 150, including efi.

If you just do the EFI conversion, what is the whp increase?

Depends on other mods to the engine. IE exhaust, cams etc. On average we push another 20whp out with the efi conversion. One of our recent ones gained even higher results. I'm conservative on our power gains and base the increases off of SAE calibrated equipment that the auto industry uses as a standard. If you were to use a mustang dyno or dyno jet the numbers would be consistently 20-30% higher than what we advertise.

So it would be fair to say kjet -> efi -> turbo would be 89 -> 110 -> 150 whp (round numbers) approximately?

Wow, Josh, this is a beauty. Thanks for developing and selling this!

Is it that difficult to intercool these cars? I would believe it if you told me. I've seen one turboed DeLorean in person and it didn't have one either.

Great question: The answer is no just expensive. SPEC II engine packages come equipped with a full air to water intercooler system. The pump and charge cooler radiators are thermostatically controlled through the ecu. Depending on IAT, MAP, TPS, CLT, FPL etc fan speed and intercooler pump flow rates vary for the system. The system is so efficient that under full operating loads the system can cool the air charge to the point that the IAT kicks the car into open loop. (IE out of closed loop as though it is warming up) This has been countered by setting the IAT secondary output to the ecu higher.

The charge coolers are fed via air diverted from the side skirts/trailing arm shields. Each cooler is shrouded with "spent air" expelled up through the engine compartment.

Frame removed for visibility. Charge cooler mounting locations.

While engine operating data directly relays changes to the ecu these are also checked via a checks and balance data stream from the charge coolers themselves. Each cooler is equipped with a IAT (inlet air temp) and before and after charge cooler temperature sensors. This allows for the data logged information to consistently correlate with not only engine parameters but also aux. system efficiency as well.

The top of the system is rather complex yet simple in principle. Once leaving the charge coolers the coolant is pushed back into the fill res. This is mounted on the left hand side of the engine compartment. The cooled fluid is then drawn back down into the bosch pumps inlet housing. From here it is pushed to the top of the engine feeding the "legend res." (center of engine) The coolant is then pressurized into the lower outlets of the intercoolers and flows top to bottom. Followed by leaving the intercoolers and heading back down to the charge coolers.
