I obtained a load of DeLorean Dealer window stickers (new and unused) from an Ebay auction recently. They were not the reason for bidding on the auction but they came with it. Anyway I have the dealer window stickers for the following VIN's:

It's not a problem Dermot, I have purchased a few items from this seller (DMC Seller as most have guessed) always good items and good seller. These just came as part of something else and I feel they should be with the cars all part of the cars history and all that.

A very generous offer but to to keep everyone honest you should require a picture of their vin tag so you know it is going to the right "home". Just because you are being generous you should not give anyone an opportunity to get one and try selling it to it's rightful owner..

Of course then there is the website with photos of hundreds of VIN tags. . . .ask for something special, i.e. some specific extra item, in the photo so that it can't be a generic VIN Tag picture.

As much as I would like to trust people, the more I see the more it gets harder and harder. I also understand a photo can be doctored to look anyway you want but for someone to go through that trouble to get a piece of paper they could have made one up. If anyone legitimately needs these documents they would have no problem at all supplying a photo of their vin tag. In fact, I am sure they would welcome this as a way to prevent anyone else from getting the paperwork that shouldn't.

I understand that, and that is why I said what I did.

Looking around us everyday are reminders of how we need to be protecting ourselves, arming ourselves, teaching our kids to hide in the closets at school during lockdowns and being skeptical of anyone you walk by on the street including your neighbours.

I think there are some bad people out there, but a very small overall number and much less than what we are getting constantly bombarded with and forced to believe from the media.

I think it may be naïve to believe no one out there is going to try to cause you harm or take advantage of you, but I think it's something other than being naïve to be able to see that the direction this is all going is a place where none of us would want to be or enjoy living in.

I don't know what the big picture solution is to fix it all, but maybe that's a good enough reason to try to start with something small instead? It has to start somewhere.

I sent a PM to the OP Chris. I know the owner of one of the VINs (11104). I sent a message wanting to get the WS for the owner as a surprise gift. No response yet, but hopefully I will be able to do this for a fellow owner and not be "blacklisted" bc I don't actually own the car in question.

Thanks for the couple of 'PM's as soon as I have an accurate postage price I will be in touch, ideally yes I would like some way of confirming the car belongs to you (not just the vin tag from the VIN list's on line) but I'm sure we can sort something out. However I wont do anything for a week or two so I can ideally give the genuine owners a chance to get in touch.

There have been a few references to the online VIN tag list, so I thought I would throw these thoughts out there.

If anyone ever asks for a photo of a VIN tag as proof of ownership, you should then take that picture they send you and compare it to what the online list shows. It's easy to do. If the two pictures are the same (or are reasonably similar), assume they copied it from the online source. Challenge them, and make them send a new photo, and specify something random to put in the picture, just as Dave said. This ensures it is a new photo, and hasn't been stolen from an online source.

Also, the VIN tags from the legitimate online list are watermarked, and so should be easy to detect if tampered with. This is above and beyond the pristine photo being provided by car's owner (at the time) and subsequently displayed with their permission.

The online VIN tag list can also be taken down at any time, if tag photo theft ever becomes a problem.

It is not that difficult to recreate a window sticker and be very close to what was original. The biggest thing you need to find out to be accurate is who the selling dealer was. All the rest can be figured out and you can download a .pdf of a blank. Stick it in a typewriter (that's how the dealer did it!) and type in the information. Having an original for your specific car is nice but rare. To find the selling dealer you can do searches of DMV records till you get to the first owner. Sometimes you can get lucky and find what you need in the paperwork that came with the car.

Here's something that happened quite recently. I won on Ebay an original owners manual that had been kept in a dealer's cupboard and when it arrived in Belfast from Kansas there was a bunch of other stuff along with it, including an original DeLorean key. The key had a vin# tag on it so I did some research to try and return the key to its rightful owner. A Carfax search gave me the current location of the car - it had moved from Kansas City MO to Iowa IA in 1992. I had the vin and the title number so with a little help from James Espey I was able to reunite the key with the owner now in Florida! The owner was only given one key with the car when they bought it!
Chris, try and get someone to do a Carfax search on the vin numbers that you have and that should give you a clue where the owners might be.

I have what's left of 11084. That car was involved in a crash early in the 80s. Sat in a field for a dozen years or so, then I bought it around 2001 or 2002. The VIN plates are in my "book of vin plates and other random delorean stuff" that i've collected from parts cars i've bought.

I'm pretty sure it was a 5 speed. When I got the car it was pretty much gutted except for the pontoon, frame, random interior pieces, and the transmission. And I recall I had the transmission of this one pulled, rebuilt, and put into my car.

Here's all the photos I have of it the day we picked it up. They had a garage with a lot of parts in it too that came with the deal. An engine, new left front fender, lots of mufflers. So many mufflers :8ball:
