Trying to figure out if I broke something...

I tightened my driver's side axle nut without the angle drive attached and the spindle broke loose. It looks to me like the spindle is just pressed in....is that correct, or did I break something?

When working on that, always loosen the outside one first, then the inside. Install in reverse order, ALWAYS tighten the inside first (where the angle drive is) as you must lock the taper spindle into the knuckle.

Thanks Dave....lesson learned. I was able to get the axle nut off again by putting the spindle in a pipe vise (padded the jaws,) then put things back together in reverse order. Everything seems OK, and I'll be driving it today (sans speedometer function) for what will probably be our last decent driving day where I live.8)
