View Full Version : Electrical OBD1 Reader

Hi all, I am wondering if we are able to hook up the old OBD1 reader to our cars to test for diagnostics? Sorry if this is a redundant question as I am now aware if we can.

The Delorean is pre OBD, ie, it does not have a computer and it has no port. There is a diagnostic port but it has no intellegence, only signals. Ground, power, timing and duty cycle.

This is interesting information. Where is this port located?

Is there any extra details on what those measurements are supposed to be?

Is the ground direct from the chassis?

Is the power direct from the battery?

What timing is referenced there?

What is the duty cycle?

Please forgive my ignorance, I am still new here.

What timing is referenced there? << A magnetic pulse from the flywheel, but nothing monitors it, and I'm not sure there is even something to pick up from on the flywheel. Never really tried.

What is the duty cycle? << Frequency valve, fed from the Lambda ECU, In the fuel injection part of the manual D:04

For more information get out your Workshop Manual and go to M:03:01 and :02. Just to warn you, in many cases all of this won't be on the car. None of it is used much and if there was any major work done on the car this is often removed. All that may be left the the 2 wire plug with A (Lambda) and B (power). The Lambda is all you really need.
