Delorean on Classic Car Rescue tonight on Velocity Channel

Well I just checked and there is a thread about the series. this is just to tell you it's on tonight. If I could I would delete this thread and add this as a post it the previous thread but I can't do that, sorry.

I was checking what was on TV tonight and found a show "Classic Car Rescue" tonight's show at 10:00 EST says they find a Delorean. I've never seen the show so I can't give you any other info.

EPISODE 5: DELOREAN

In this episode of Classic Car Rescue, no-nonsense, Cockney mechanic, Bernie Fineman, and his partner - Canadian car dealer, Mario Pacione, go back to the future to rescue one of the most recognisable cars of the eighties - a Delorean. But this rescue turns out to be an emotional rollercoaster of a ride with tempers fraying, the budget blowing and all hell breaking loose as the boys struggle to turnaround this iconic classic.

Famed for its gull-wing doors and stainless steel finish, the Delorean created a massive buzz when it first launched. Only for it to die a death two years later after less than ten thousand had rolled off the production line. With so few in existence, well-restored Deloreans can command big prices. But finding a rescue project is tough... which is why Bernie and Mario end up buying one that has a broken door, doesn't start and has had its stainless steel bodywork completely covered in a thick layer of red paint...

It's a gamble that doesn't pay off when they discover what lies beneath the red paint... And it isn't stainless steel! A combination of a botch job on the front wing and almost terminal rust on the so-called 'un-rustable' car has everyone's temper boiling over.

Things go from bad to worse when carelessness in the garage results in a big bill for a replacement window and, when Mario's penchant for penny-pinching leads to the boys being stranded on the side of the road, Bernie blows a gasket.

Can our intrepid duo manage to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds to impress a car expert and make a profit?

Despite the programme being awful, (as with all of the ones they do) when I actually got to see the car (it was given away over in the UK as a prize) they actually did a really good job of removing all the paint from the body. You would really struggle to find any evidence that it was ever a painted car.

That thing about getting a Jeep radiator and modify it to fit just seemed like an attempt to inject some sort of controversy in the show. Anyone who invests in a Delorean project would know to contact any of the Delorean outlets to get a proper replacement "rad". They did pay a very nice tribute to our brand though.

I'm not sure how they edited the piece, but i could see a few red flags in the "final product" like the 12 o'clock fuel gauge, sagging head liners, worn switches etc.

Were those rims NOS or refinished? holy smokes were they nice.

I love cars and all, especially DeLoreans. But why would I want to watch people arguing?

That's Bruce Bonebrake. He is the Bob Ross of do-it-yourself car repair. He had a helper on occasion, but they never fought, and the dude was always encouraging. Stacey David, Steve Magnante, and Mark Lambert too were hosts that were relaxed and encouraging when it came to repairs/restoration.

Why are violence and anger the only "entertainment" option anymore.

I'll never watch the show again. I agree I can't stand the arguing and yelling. Wheeler Dealers is a LOT better, no bickering.

I used to like Storage Wars but the "Dave Hester" character sucks. It's not the people I like, other than Brandy, Casey, and even Laura :worship:, I like the neat stuff they find/plant.

Same thing with Pawn Stars, I like the stuff and really don't like the people arguing.

American Pickers I think is my favorite a lot less drama and lot more stuff.

Ever since American Chopper, reality shows have been trying to replicate that drama by staging things like the window breaking, etc... and also by having a show with guys like this overreact to try and make it more interesting. I watch just about all these shows, but mostly for the cars so I fast forward thru any of the BS drama like these guys have every show and only watch the actual work on the cars.
Wheeler Dealers is one of the best, like somebody else said because they're nice guys and like what they do, no tricks.
Overhaulin used to be really good too, but I can't stand the dolled-up women who "co-host" and know nothing about cars so I fast forward anytime they show up as well... and they also got rid of the original point of the show, which was to surprise the owner by stealing their car and fixing it for them. Now they know about it ahead of time... I think because they got flack for doing the builds so quickly. Although none of this changes the fact that Chip Foose is an automotive genius.
Top Gear obviously great, and has the most beautiful cinematography of any show... but they have huge budget too. It feels like forever since new episodes though. The US version of the show was terrible.
I like Chasing Classic Cars with Wayne Carini, although I skip thru a lot of the ones with the super old cars I don't care about. He does find some great cars though, and obviously knows his stuff.
The new show Bitchin Rides with the Kindigit shop has some nice cars, but the shop manager on the show is so annoying that I have to skip through the parts with him.
Fantomworks isn't bad either, but it's gotten better the second season. The first season they would have these people bring their cars in and then he would slap them with a crazy bill that they clearly could not afford and, as happy as they were with their cars, were clearly overwhelmed with the bill... and the owner came off as a prick because of it. The second season, he's much more up front about the prices and they've toned down the fake drama.
Fast N Loud show I can't watch because the main host is too annoying, and the same with the Dallas Sharks or something.
Legendary Motorcar is good, Peter Klutt is really good and just a nice regular guy... he is Canadian so maybe that's not such a surprise.


It's a good time for car shows on TV with the Velocity channel... I remember when it used to be Motorweek and not a whole lot else. Not to mention the internet now with shows like Jay Leno's Garage and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Sorry for the long rant... I just started typing about this episode, then all the sudden my brain starts going through all the other shows and I've typed up a book report!

My main beef with shows like Truck U and Gearz etc etc is that they are really thinly disguised infomercials.

All Girls Garage - gimme a brake! - who would be so naive to think that a bunch of hot girls actually got together to work on cars and just happen to name drop parts manufacturers left and right. It's insulting to us men that the producers thought that anyone of us would fall for that :screwy:

What really tipped me off to the BS that was put into these shows was the scene where they tried to start the car during the purchase. First, no lights were on in the door that was opened, the battery was magically charged after sitting for 5 years, and I was able pick up the sampled sound of a 4 cyl Nissan turning over with the coil wire pulled while they were all shaking their heads. I was shaking my head right along with them.

Get ready for the classic car bubble just like the housing bubble that popped years ago (in the USA anyways....still waiting for the Canadian bubble to pop so I can get that three car garage!)

These shows are not about the cars. That is just to suck you in. It becomes all about the drama, the conflicts, the ticking clock to make it dramatic. You watch it hoping it will be about the car but that is almost never the case. And if you see the actual work product of most of these shows it is horrible. Most of them turn into one long infomercial about a sponsor's product. The bottom line is these shows are for entertainment not information. They are nothing more than an offshoot of the reality shows. Cheap to produce.

I watched it last night. Like most "reality" TV, it was pretty throwaway.

I like how they repeated "galvanized frame" a few times. I WISH mine was galvanized!

No mention of how they got the fascias so nicely stripped and painted.

The three-week deadline was solely for dramatic effect. You're telling me the car dealer only had three weeks to pay back the money he borrowed to buy the car in the first place? Bollocks. People will watch anything with a freaking countdown in it -- someone to come in the room and say "Five! Four! Three! Two! One!" is a staple of all of those cooking/dressmaking/windowpolishing/whatever competition TV shows. And cymbal rolls. Lots of cymbal rolls.

The radiator and window stuff was all laughable to me. But people shouting at each other over manufactured controversy is what passes for drama in modern TV and cinema, so I'm afraid we'll all have to get used to it (or ignore it) until it goes away.

That said, the car was fairly well-represented. Only the one mechanic called it a POS off the bat, and once it was running, the driver actually complimented its acceleration. (He must exclusively drive antique vehicles.)

One question, though: were those prices in Canadian dollars, since the shop was in Canada?

This reminds me of old episode of american hotrod during which they are supposedly doing the first engine start on the project car. crank,crank,crank, crank nothing. OMG what could it be. Hmm, perhaps it's the fact that the coil wire is removed from the distributor. Clearly visible in the camera shot while the engine is being cranked.

As side note, I recently discovered CAR SOS on the NAT GEO channel. It's British based and modeled loosely after the Overhaulin. The premise being a family member of the unsuspecting vehicle owner contacts the show and shares the story about how a family member has had a vehicle for years or decades with the intent of restoring it. As usual life circumstances get in the way or an Illness of some kind. Depending on the circumstance the host finds a creative way to get the vehicle away from the owner for a 3 week period in which they completely go through the vehicle bringing it back to life then they reveal the restored vehicle to the owner in unsuspecting fashion.

The best part about the show is that their is very little drama and lots of actual camera time spent with the mechanic's as they discover all sorts of issues followed by the repair process each one requires. I enjoy the show for what it is.

I use the term loosely because they do the restoration work over a 3 week time frame instead of 7 days of around the clock mad man rush to complete the work like Overhaulin'. The show features vehicle restoration versus customization with Tricked out paint jobs and custom wheels. EI: the FOOSE EFFECT.

I just finished watching the You tube video posted earlier. I want to know where the drop glass FRAME is in the broken window? I would have expected it to still be in the door around the drop glass. The other thing that bugged me is when they first discover the Passenger door is broke. The Door strut is missing while the guy is holding up the door. Granted later on they finally show the strut is completely Dead.

I also enjoyed SAM and DAVE back when they did The SHADE TREE MECHANIC Show. It was about fixing normal cars and doing those average DIY mechanic jobs. Later on when they changed the Name of the show to CRANK And CHROME and essentially changed to just putting on Show SPONSOR Performance Parts. I lost interest pretty fast.
