Hi there,

What is the torque specification for the 4 bolts that hold the front brake caliper halves together? Also, they are two different thicknesses, so is the torque spec different?

Thanks.

There is no torque spec. According to the factory you are not supposed to take it apart so they never published a spec. Get it tight.

55 ft lbs is correct for mounting front calipers to the hub bracket. 38 ft lbs is the torque to hold the two caliper halves together as per Rob Grady.

Great, thanks again. I noticed that 55 was the same torque value as the bracket (an M12 bolt). I searched for assembly torque specs for grade 8 bolts and the recommendation is that the smaller (3/8"-24) bolt is 37 ft/lbs and the larger (7/16"-20) bolt is 58 ft/lbs. So Rob's specs make sense. I was worried about the smaller bolt, as the max torque spec of a 3/8" grade 8 bolt is 47/48 ft/lbs, and it is in less metal casting. I wonder if the bolt grade is higher than 8 to have handled 55 in the instructions.
....or maybe I worry too much.:wrenchin:

As Dan said I've been rebuilding calipers for twenty five years using the 38 ft/lb spec. I got it from the old British car specialist who makes my stainless caliper pistons.
