Hi again,

My front brakes are almost done, except for this spring that came with the DMCH hardware kit. I have tried to install them, and I am stumped. Is there a technique? I assume they go like I have shown in the picture. Correct?

Thanks.

Not familiar with that piece - but the basic reason for a spring is to force the pads apart so they don't drag on the rotor. Hervey packs a small coil spring with his kits for that purpose. I assume that spring is meant to do the same. looks like you are trying to install it to force the pads together.

Rotate the spring 90 degrees. The purpose is to hid the pads tight to the rods. I.e. Anti prattle springs. I'll post a picture later if I can find one.

Argh. I Grabbed the wrong pic. They will work either way but usually the rounded center section is on the outside of the pads.

BTW we sell reconditioned steering racks but will also soon be offering a comprehesive rebiuld kit complete with the boots, bearings, bushings, preload springs, lock pins, shims and complete rebuild instructions if you happen to be interested?

Excellent! Thanks very much.

Now on to refreshing the steering rack....

Just saw this and wanted to add I recently purchased one of PJ Grady's steering racks and had Rob install it. Very pleased with it. It's a night and day difference from what it was before.
