DPNW adjustable fan switch/otterstat replacement

For the past few months, my fans would only turn on if I turned on the A/C. I knew it was a bad otterstat because when I jumpered the otterstat wires, the fans came right on. (I also have an auto bleeder, so I don't "think" there is any air trapped in the lines.) Temp always runs right where it should when either highway driving or A/C is on.

So I put in the new otterstat, and it won't turn on the fans either. I also confirmed via a meter that at 210+ degrees, the otherstat is still not closing the circuit. So maybe I got a bad one..maybe it was dropped..who knows.

I saw a blurb about toby's adjustable fan switch which allows you to choose the temp setting and appears to be much higher quality than the $20 otterstat. Has anybody used it? Also, I see that the otterstat remains in place, so where does the temp sensor for toby's mount? the description says "into the coolant pipe."

Just as it says. Shove it into the coolant pipe between the hose and tube....

Thanks josh! I didn't see that part about shoving it in. Does it go all the way in to the liquid or just pick up the heat from the outside of the pipe between the tubing and the hose.

Here is all I can find regarding install.

The Wings-B-Cool Adjustable Fan Switch comes preassembled on a custom aluminum bracket, and is mounted using an existing bolt. There is no drilling or wiring changes required to install this switch. Simply mount the switch, insert the temperature probe into the nearby cooling pipe, and plug the existing wires onto the terminals

you put the "metal pen" inside the aluminium pipe (so the cables goes between the pipe and the rubber joiner)

I've had Toby's adjustable fan switch for several years. It's the only way to go in my opinion. The brass house of my otterstat actually cracked and coolant started leaking. I actually had a new aluminum straight through pipe made. I thought still having the otterstat acting as a plug was an unnecessary risk.
