Help with part ID

so I was removing my exhaust and I came across this part. It looks like its been leaking a while, as its all crusty. I cant seem to locate it on any of the diagrams. Can someone help?

It the oil pressure warning light sensor. When your oil pressure gets higher than allowable >80psi this sensor grounds out and turns on a light on the dash

Id take it out and install a new crush washer

Is that how it works? I thought it was the other way around; that when your oil pressure drops below a certain threshold it would turn on. Never actually looked into it though, just assumed.

I could be backwards. Or it could work both ways. Perhaps someone could clarify!

Mine was never plugged in lol. If the light turns on when you turn on the car (car on, engine not running) then it signifies low pressure at least.

I think Nick is right. I also understood it to be a low pressure sensor. It could also be high, but it definitely warns about low. As Jawn explained one day, the reason it comes on when you turn the key to accessories but without starting the engine is there isn't any oil pressure at that moment. I would be surprised if it has the ability to warn for high as well as low.

Very often they leak where the stud comes out for the electrical connection. You can take it all apart and reseal it or replace it. This one isn't leaking all that much, I have seen them leak much worse. The wire going to it gets all burnt up making the light stay on. Either sleeve it with something heat resistant or replace the wire with something rated for more heat. By the time you see that light come on you have NO oil pressure so shut the motor off immediately. When starting the car you should see the light on till the motor is started, it is a bulb check.

Low pressure. That's why it lights up when you turn on the key with the engine not running, and the pressure is at zero. As soon as the engine turns over the oil pressure comes up and the light goes off.
