Your first album and its format

This isn't anything official and it definitely isn't anything related to DeLoreans.

Completely just for fun, what was the first album you remember getting and what format was it? (vinyl, tape, CD, etc.)

We have a lot of different ages here on the forum and a similar number of different interests. Have at it!

The first cassette tape I can remember (and pretty sure I still have) was Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry

First CD was Tone Loc - Loc'ed After Dark

Was never a big vinyl guy, but I know either me or a sibling had a 45 of Sly Fox - Lets Go All The Way

First album I actually owned - MC Hammer - Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em on tape circa 1990.

I never bought albums, I borrowed them and copied on to reel-to-reel tape. Yes - analog piracy in the 60s!

I don't recall for sure the first real vinyl album I owned (got as a gift), probably John Lennon. Never bought 45s.

First record album; the Flash Gordon soundtrack.

I listened to it so many times I think it's completely flat now.

First Laserdisc; Die Hard

First Minidisc; Footloose

First CD; Def Leppard Hysteria. I still listen to it.

First tape I ever bought with my own 'money'; I traded a buddy a mint, in the box Greedo for his cassette of the Xanadu soundtrack. I only recall this trade because that stupid Greedo could buy me another Delorean right now. That said, it introduced me to ELO so it wasn't all bad.

First bootleg VHS - Back to the Future. I was 12 and I remember looking at our 2 VCRs after renting BTTF for the 100th time and thinking 'nah, it can't be that easy'. I'm not a fan of piracy but back then VHS tapes cost $100 and there is no way in hell I could come up with that kinda scratch. I don't feel too bad because I later bought it on Laserdisc, DVD and then Blu-Ray so Universal got their money back in spades.

Not positive what my absolute first LP was - I joined one of those clubs where you got a bunch for $.01 and had to buy a few over the next year. I think it was Steve Miller - Book of Dreams. Maybe Doobie Brothers or Jefferson Starship (none of which I particularly care for anymore). I wasn't really into prerecorded cassettes, I'd make my own mixes or "rip" other albums.

As far as most albums/tapes/CDs from one artist, hands down: Saga. I think I must have 15+ different ones. And I bet you've never even heard of them!

My first LP was Kiss Love Gun. I was in the 3rd grade and somehow got my dad to give me a $20 whilst at the mall. The record was orange. My mother apparently destroyed it a few weeks later.

My first tape was AC/DC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

My first CD was Guns and Roses, Appetite for Destruction. Purchased at Target of all places.

The only Blue Rays I own (not ripped) are the BTTF trilogy.

Awesome! We used to try and record the Friday night radio broadcast of the newest beats or dance tracks so to be the small town guy with the newest, best music... until the DJ came on and talked all over it!!! hahaha... man, love me some cassette tape editing, lol.

'Twas Christmas 1980. Under the tree was my first ever new LP.

Kings of the Wild Frontier by Adam and the Ants. Antmusic baby :)

Of course I had already played it dozens of times, really quietly, you know, the way it was supposed to be played. (After my parents went to bed).

A few months before that I had borrowed Never Mind the Bollocks from a friend, but I had to hide that in amongst my dads Unplayed John Denver Albums so my mom wouldn't see all the bad words :)

These were the first of hundreds of LPs and singles that I amassed, including the first Saga album, Owen ;)

Not a single Kiss album, or even song, oddly enough.

First full length album that I remember getting (that was bought new) was "Seven and the Ragged Tiger" by Duran Duran. Had a bunch of records before that but they were usually 45s and mostly from my mom's record collection.

First pre-recorded cassette memory is a bit fuzzy, but I want to say it was "Gee Our First Album" by The Rock-afire Explosion. Ah the good old Showbiz Pizza days!

First CD I remember very well; it was actually two at the same time. "Mosaic" by Wang Chung and "Live - The Way It Is Tour 1986-87" by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. I remember that because they were the only CDs I owned for a long time. Got my CD player for my 8th birthday and it broke only a month or so afterwards and spent forever in the repair shop. Gotta love new technology.

First CDs (I got a 5 disc changer so I needed a few)-U2 the Joshua Tree, MC Hammer-Please Hammer Don't Hurt Em, Richard Marx-Repeat Offender, The Canadian Brass-for my dad...he bought it all for me, so I had to let him get one ;)

It's funny how we can remember some seemingly meaningless info like this, but I can't remember the name of any of the patients I saw on Friday :/

The town I grew up in had a music store called "For The Record" although I can't remember looking for vinyl while in there. The staff would tell you "we can get it" pretty much no matter what you asked for. Me and a friend of mine thought that they were full of it and just made up the name of an album to ask if they could get it. I think we came up with 'The Milkmen - Thirsty For More'. Sure enough, they said they would have it in by the end of the week, lol.

Yea, funny how you remember "the firsts". JediDentist: No details on who your patients were on Friday, but I bet you remember who your first patient was when you started your practice?

And then there are us old fogies - - to get an "album" we had to buy several individual 78's - - but for what it is worth (see, we old fogies also spell things out), once I got hip I became a Queen freak - albums, cd's, vhs concert tapes - all well worn and well loved.

That was my first as well, but I think I got mine a little earlier (1988 maybe). I was around 9 or so.. Great album, and yes, I still rock it today, too!

The first tape? A Micheal Jackson tape I believe. First CD? I know it probably was either Queen or The Offspring.

Now, my first DVD I can tell you right off the bat. Highlander...
First Blu-Ray? Avatar... I wanted it to be Highlander for good old sake, but couldn't find it at the time.

I worked summers at a store called "Stereo City" that had a wall-of-8 track tapes for sale. We also installed players in cars since it was a pretty rare factory option at that point. I probably installed hundreds of them in the early 70s, for some reason mostly in Buicks.

I never owned one, I went straight to cassettes.

Somehow I can totally see you as someone that adopted newer technologies early on. Not 8-tracks in particular, or Beta vs VHS, but in general. I bet you have some wild stories on what your first computer cost back in the early days?

For the longest time, I had an 8-track player and a ton of tapes that still functioned. Unfortunately my parents "saw no use for it" and threw it out. :(

As far as the first album I owned, it was either Toxicity by System of a Down, or American Idiot by Green Day, both on CD. Even had a Sony Walkman or two to play them on. Eventually when MP3 players were first coming out, I got one of those (256 MB storage with sequential song playing, cost $50 at the time!) and would watch MTV2. Any time a good song came on, or if I heard a good song on a video game, I'd download it and listen to it endlessly. Then I sat on my backpack one day and the LCD screen got demolished. Wound up buying a Sandisk Sansa Express and using that. Seven years later, to this day, it still runs like a champ.

I actually googled it, and found the original press release article here (http://www.sandisk.com/about-sandisk/press-room/press-releases/2007/2007-01-08-sandisk-introduces-sansa-express-mp3-player/) for it. Battery still lasts forever, which is shocking considering most of the rechargeables I've ever had die out after five years. Hilariously, the Zune and iPod came out shortly after this, so the product found a rapid decline in sales, but mine's still very much reliable and usable.

First CD: can't remember if it was "Queen greatest hits" or "The best of The Doors"...

First LP: "Introducing the hardline according to Terence Trent D'Arby"! Of course the vynil era was way over, but I like them anyway!
