Got my DeLorean

Hey All, I posted in the Introductions thread a few months ago but since then have been more of a lurker than a poster while I searched for my car. I've been on the lookout for one since late summer.

Well, it turned out that Christmas came a little early for me this year and I'm now the proud owner of an '81 Automatic with a little over 17,000 on the odometer, that I got from DMC Northwest. The car runs great and I've been having a blast driving it, as well as enjoying the attention that the car generates. I got my first BTTF quote just a few hours after I'd picked the car up, while stopped at a Starbucks. :D

Overall, the car is in great shape with just a few minor items that Toby told me should be addressed at some point. Anyways, hope you enjoy the photos and I can't tell you how excited I am at finally becoming a DeLorean owner!

The sending unit for the fuel gauge is original and should probably be replaced with an upgraded model, the heating system mode switch is hissing a little and should be rebuilt, the windshield has a crack in it and needs to be replaced which I should be getting taken care of next week. Also, the driver's side door seems like it could use a new strut as it tends to sag a little, I plan on having Toby check that when I take the car in for the windshield.

There are glass shops and mobile glass shops that can possibly repair a cracked windscreen. It is worth at least getting it checked before committing to the replacement. If you do go for the replacement make sure Toby informs the shop of the proper procedures, propping up the roof of the car and the placement of the rear view mirror with tape and not glue. Struts are no big deal and you should probably do both sides so they are even.

The windshield replacement was actually part of the sale, the previous owner agreed to pay for it to be replaced when he put the car on consignment. Right now Toby is waiting on a new shipment of windshields from Houston, as soon as he gets them I'll run it over and have the work done. If I'd been on the hook for it myself, I probably would've seen if the crack could have been repaired at a glass shop.
