I tried searching for this, but couldn't find anything...forgive me if I overlooked it. Has anyone ever installed a clear bra? I couldn't find one for sale anywhere, but it doesn't mean it couldn't be made and installed. I've had them installed on two of my cars, and for the amount of highway driving I do, it's saved several paint jobs. I was only thinking about it because mine has an original, almost flawless paint job and I'd like to preserve it for as long as possible.

My personal experience is that conventional bras end up doing more damage than good to paint in the long run. The old school black fabric ones flap around in the wind and scuff the paint. Plus I think they detract from the look of most cars. By clear bra I'm assuming you mean the modern protective clear adhesive vinyl that is cut to fit and adhered to the paint surfaces?

Hopefully that's what you mean and not some kind of big clear plastic removable cover like the traditional bras, except clear.

This website has sheets of adhesive clear vinyl that you can cut and fit on the front fascia...

Most of the frontal surface area on a stock DeLorean fascia is bare black urethane though so there isn't a whole lot of paint to protect unless you do the upper and side facing surfaces as well. UV/sun damage seems to be the major killer of original fascia paint anyway... You might get some added UV protection from the vinyl film, I'm not sure. Keeping a good coat of wax on the paint might do just as good of a job than trying to apply vinyl film to the complex shape of the fascia.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

It's a 3M product that does have UV protection. No, it won't protect the very front, but you can get a lot of chips on the top area of the fascia. The issue is that most of these products are laser cut to the specific vehicle and not custom made and applied by hand. Our cars are unusual and old enough that there are no "templates" that I know of. I was just curious if anyone has had any experience doing this on a DeLorean and if there were any issues with the adhesion of the original paint to the fascia "delaminating" or whatever.

If you look around locally (talk to folks are car shows) you might be able to find someone that works directly with the film, not just someone that applies pre-cut templates. I have a local guy "custom" wrap the front of my other car (Not the DeLorean) and he did a far better job then the precut and about 20% cheaper too.

Or you could try the spray-on stuff
