Introduction - Hello Everybody

Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm an Emmy Award Winning TV News broadcaster in Oklahoma and a classic car restorer in my spare time. I've always loved the delorean, ya know.. since "The Movie"... and figured it's about that time in my life to start hunting one down.

My past restorations include a 1958 Chevy, 1968 Ford Pickup (currently in the shop), an 84 Camaro, Ive done a 5 mustang (sold) but have 2 more (one done, one driving but ugly). I've also had the pleasure to do a 67 GTO for a friend and a 95 Mustang for a cousin.

The way I see it, the D is a timeless machine, and I want to drive it. I'm not gonna set her aside to collect dust. This was a car to enjoy and once I find one, enjoy I shall.

The issue comes that, I've got so much tied up in other cars, my purchase budget is $15-20K.... and not many are out there for that range it seems.

Anyway, I hope to learn and contribute to this fine community going forward.

Welcome Drew! As far as a purchase is concerned, doing some research before pulling the trigger definitely helps. If you are anywhere near a DMC franchise, or anywhere where you can view several cars at once, a visit there helps as well.

Sadly thats actually illegal. While it does happen from time to time, its usually people who are dead. Emmy's don't show up on the market often because of the swift fist of blinding justice the academy will beat you with. The crazy thing is.. while you may have one in your possession.. it is always their Emmy. and they will take it back if you disrespect them. I have 2, and selling one would easily pay for a top of the line 40K car... but it's just not going to happen.

Ok, with your budget, you will need to do a lot of shopping and know your way around the car. Most in that range NEED a lot of work... and either way you will pay more in the end, for a nice reliable fun to drive car... The more you can do yourself the better... Enjoy the hunt!

Ive just realized how this isnt in the proper section of the forum... oops. The big General Discussion at the top is normally the generic junk on forums i visit. Could a mod move it over to Open discussion where it belongs please?

For sure, lots of detailed research will go into any car before i pull the trigger on the purchase. detailed pictures and an in person inspection or 3 will easily be the norm. Since I'm looking for one that does run and drive I'll expect to ride around a bit and put it through some basic highway/city paces. If it starts overheating or shows signs of not running smooth once up to temp, ill know theres more to the story.

In the end it is always best if you can buy the best one you can afford. Try not to buy the first one you see. Every time you look at one you will learn a little bit more. If possible hook up with anyone who is local to you for help. With a budget of $20K you should be able to find a very nice runner. Just don't pay the $20K for a beater and find out later what you really bought. Mileage is not the most important consideration, how it was cared for and present condition is all important.
