Replacing Clutch

Can anyone tell me what i should roughly be paying to have my clutch replaced? Kind of scared taking to anyone else outside of DMC CA.

What you need to know (I suspect) is what parts you need and the labour time on the job.

DPI sells clutch kits for just under $400. Factor in $100 to $120/hr in labour at a shop and bam, you've got your estimate.

Any clue how many hours it would take? DMC is asking $1,800 all in for a complete clutch replacment.

A vendor would have to chime in, but it requires transmission removal. Not a small job.

The flywheel also needs to be resurfaced (50-100$)

This also assumes your clutch hydralics are good. You could end up replacing the slave cyl and line as a "While you are at it" job. Not sure if DMC factors that into the cost. Extra time to bleed the system is necessary after as well

We are 1536.13 out the door with tax on parts only for a reference. This includes rear main seal replacement and sleeving the crank if required.

That sounds about right unless they'also changing the hydraulics. Ask for a written estimate and then you can see what they're including in that price

As much as it seems nice to get a fixed price to do the clutch you really can't go by it completely. It always depends on how the car was driven and cared for but everyone will tell you there are all kinds of other things that usually will be found that need fixing. From bent trailing arm bolts to leaky seals on the transaxle, to bent roll pins, broken bolts, exhaust leaks, bad mounts, worn linkage bushings, the list can go on. Hard to ignore what you find and not repair it too. You need to have some extra money available over and above the cost of "just" a clutch. Ever hear of the 5 O'clock surprise? Most of the time it is not the mechanic just trying to bump up the bill but in doing the authorized work other things had to also be repaired in the course of the repair.
