A friend forwarded me this pic. Does anyone know anything about these cars, about the property, or about the owner(s) of them? I've never seen this pic before. Very interesting though.

lol! Funny. Looks like the picture with the caption has a police booth in it for some reason. I was curious about these cars and figured it wasn't some amazing barn find of missing Deloreans or anything like that. I was thinking someone here would know, and sure enough! :)

No way! Doctor Who has been around since 1963 and is still running to this day. Great show, I have a full scale replica TARDIS that I am bringing back from my next comic-con.

I guess I'm the oddball out!, the minority group, etc.... haha! I really don't keep up on the science fiction stuff. Definitely cool, but I'm not an avid fan I guess. I think I'm one of the few that loved Deloreans for being a Delorean and not because of BTTF, etc. I loved the Delorean when it came out, long before the BTTF hype. Don't get me wrong, I love BTTF too! I have to be honest that it's Delorean that got me into the movie, and not the movie that got me into Deloreans. Either way, it's all cool stuff and I've met some great people because of all of this! :)

I am just surprised as you infer that you are young (or "younger"), with all the current pop culture surround Dr Who (more so today than 30 years ago I would say) that you wouldn't recognize the Tardis.

I'm definitely not younger. When I clicked on the first link in the search it said that TARDIS was first conceptualized in 1963. I didn't have time at that moment to read the whole thing and I thought this was mainly from the 60's which is before my time. I had no idea that this was still running today.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this (flame suit on), but I have honestly never heard of TARDIS until this thread! :blush: Reading online, it looks like it originated in Britain? I assume it's really well known in the UK, but is it also as popular in the US? I never have heard anyone here even talking about it. Maybe I'm not hanging out with the right people!?? haha!

Doctor Who is steadily gaining popularity in the US. You can find it on BBC America during the broadcast cycle (being in Canada, I have no idea if they rerun them in a regular loop on weekends, nights, etc...) The entire revived series up to Christmas 2014 is also on netflix (and will apparently stay for now) (http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/netflix-keeping-doctor-who-luther-more-bbc-series-1201407630/).

I'm also a Car before Movie owner, so I like to mention the TARDIS when I'm approached with time travel comments. If I get puzzled looks, I just show them my keychain.

(there have been 12 actors playing The Doctor over the ~800 episodes and 50 years. The fans (aka Whovians) usually have their favorite, often the one who starred in the season that they first got hooked on the show on)

Star Wars and Star Trek being the two most popular science fiction series/franchises? Yes, definitely yes for me.

What's the going definition of science fiction though nowadays?

The reason I ask is because I was trying to think of what else could be third most popular.

Last Starfighter, V, Dune, Alien(s), Predator... all sound like science fiction titles to me. Dr. Who probably is too. What about BTTF, would that be SF as well? I wouldn't normally think of it as SF.

Does the movie need to be in outer space to qualify? Most of those others have some sort of "space" aspect. How about the Terminator franchise? Not really about space, but definitely about the future (and time travel... and my vote for 3rd most popular?)

Does Harry Potter fall into SF or is it in a "Fantasy" category? How about Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit? Superman could be science fiction, sort of, maybe all the superhero movies could be? X-Men is a little far fetched, but Batman isn't that unbelievable (in a science way). What about Unbreakable? It is set in everyday life about something extraordinary. If the movie setting is looking realistic, it doesn't come across very SF-ey to me. Transformers though, that might need its own category.

There could be a couple more demographic categories. I'd fall into that first age group you mentioned, but while I do know what the show is, I never had any interest in it. So the other two demographics could be those with a limited knowledge of many such things, but no interest in them (an a-whovian, perhaps?) and the other group of people who really don't know much about anything unless it's something right in front of them in their immediate life, useless trivia knowledge or indepth.

Ha, that's exactly the same with me. I learned about Doctor Who about a year ago, but first thought that picture was referencing the Bill and Ted phone booth. I also always loved Science fiction and I'm 33 years old. The series some how slipped passed me.
