View Full Version : Fuel Fuel Leak

02-21-2015, 09:15 PM
Today I noticed a strong odor of gasoline coming from my D. Upon closer inspection I discovered the leak was coming from one of the two fuel lines that supply the fuel pump. This surprised me since last year I had replaced the old pump with one of Houston's new combo units which worked great. But I seemed to remember that it came with new fuel hoses which I used during the install. After a close examine I discovered linear cracks running the length of these new hoses and the leak was coming from one of these cracks, in fact I caused several more leaks when I bent the hose a little during my exam. I also spotted a flat spot on one of them where it was making contact with the inspection cover and it felt soft in that area as well. Has anyone also experienced this problem? Is Houston using standard fuel line hose or fuel injection hose? Standard hose usually has a 50psi rating compared to fuel line hose which is rated at 250psi.

It is just regular fuel injection line you can get from any parts store. I believe it is 5/16". Get fuel injection hose clamps as well.

Regular fuel injection hose has a working pressure of 50 PSI. We need a working pressure of 75 PSI.

This is not normal. Please contact DMCH ASAP - talk to Stephen or James.

Any hose i have gotten locally has been labeled 100psi.

I just picked up some replacement fuel injection hose from Pep Boy's it's rated at 6.9 bars so I believe it should work for my D. The two defective hoses that were leaking have "CRP NBR/CR N18030E 7,5x3 07/06/2012 stamped on them but I can't find a pressure rating.

Looks like some other people have had problems with that hose.

That's not the hose we are using now, I wonder where that came from. The one we are using (and have been for quite a while) is made by Gates and is very clearly stamped 225PSI, also says "Multi-Fuel & Bio-Fuel Compatible" and has EPA/CARB numbers all over it.

The hoses came with Houston's new fuel pump setup, tonight I'll try to find my original invoice from them to see exactly when I purchased it.

Found it, the fuel pump was purchased on 1/8/2013. I thought it was sooner, since it took months before I had time to install it.

Left a voice mail message for Stephen today at DMCH, I'll be curious to see if or how they respond to this problem. Hopefully they'll do better than Toyota or GMC.

Got a call from the big man himself yesterday, he's going to ship out two new hoses, clamps, and a inline check valve since it seems they had problems with the built in check valves on the units. I'll be sending the old hoses back for their inspection.

Glad to hear they're making it right. Though not surprised as they've always been stand-up folks to deal with, at least from my view.
