Hiya,
I was wondering what happened to the Tellus carriers that were used in the Delorean factory in Dunmurry.
During DCS in Gettysburg I saw one.
I cannot see a company called Tellus making those, what happened to the company?
Anyone knows about this??

There was a Tellus carrier at the convention in Ohio last summer and I think it was Houston that owns it. But it was just a single one. Not sure what happened to all the others. Perhaps sold at the auction in '84?

This Tellus carrier is owned by a member of the DeLorean Midwest Connection club and it is "on loan" to Ken Koncelik,
to be used for display at DCS, in exchange for storage at Ken's shop for the other 99% of the time.
Not sure if anything has officially changed (or changed hands) since it was first on display at DCS 2006 in Chicago,
displaying a PDC Stainless Steel frame, then it went into storage (at Ken's) after that DCS and after each DCS since.
This Tellus carrier was never sent to the DeLorean Factory, but it was the next in line to be shipped to Ireland,
when the anticipated production increase was to occur (which, unfortunately, never occurred).

The descendant of Tellus is now Eisenmann Corp. I can't find the info but I believe they took over the product line some time after DMC went away. (Eisenmann is an old company)

The really interesting part, at least to me, is that the US location is in Crystal Lake, in fact I drive past it all the time.

John,
you got me thinking about this and I too wonder how many of these Tellus carriers were installed at the factory and what became of them?
Were they used in any other car manufacturing factories?
I found this patent on-line for a similar carrier from Tellus Maskin AB ("Maskin" meaning "machine" in Swedish)
https://www.google.com/patents/US4306503?dq=4306503&hl=en&sa=X&ei=1oHsVOzEEJL3ggSljIC4Dw&ved=0CB8Q6AEwAA
as well as this linked one for an in-floor routing system
https://www.google.com/patents/US3933099
The logo of the Tellus Maskin AB company was

and there seemed to have been a related company, Tellus Machinery (trademarked by Tellus Maskin AB) located in Preoria IL, which may well be the unit that is now in Crystal Lake, as Dave says.

The relationship to Eisenmann may or may not be correct, I don't recall where I heard that. Corporate archeology can get kind of interesting.

I wonder if anyone at the reunion would know...

IIRC, the number on this Tellus carrier was in the 30's ... I think it was #37.
This might put the number of Tellus carriers at the factory at 36.

But weren't the Tellus carriers numbered from 20-25 pulled off the line to convert them to Metric specs, and then renumbered as 120-125? Maybe we'll never know how many of them there were? ;)

Metric specs, ;)
So they would move themselves around the floor in centimeters per minute instead of inches per minute?

Stainless steel illusion indicates that when Delorean increeased production, they made rolling carriers themselves where they had to be pushed by hand as a temp solution.
When in Gettysburgh I stared at the Tellus carrier for a long time, I tought is was very interesting. I was unaware it was never in Dunmurry however.
I hope someone reacts who knows.... anyone?.... Anyone.... Neil? Nick? Bueller?....
