How often can you go out without people bothering you?

Last time i had one, i remember some people shouting "holy ssss, a delorean!!!" And "fffffff marty!" While at Lowe's. I dont remember the frequency of these... disturbances, so i ask you all: what percentage of the time would you say you can go out without encountering these happenings?

am i wrong toexpect nice pleasant drives to meetings and stores?

When I first got my car I stopped to talk to everyone, but over time, I just have gotten burnt out. I typically do a mad dash to my car to avoid these people. Sometimes I get caught and I'm very nice and pleasant. But I used to get out and talk to everyone, but I just hate answering the same questions over and over and over again.

People will ask all sorts of questions......like did you find any drugs in the doors?.......or was that car in the movie?.......How fast does it go? What do you have for an engine? Can I touch it?...........or they touch it when you are not looking........Its all to be expected.........If you go out one day and knowone says anything you say to yourself....whats the matter?

I always try to be polite with people so they go away with a favorable memory of the car. I think people come up with the dumb stuff just as a way of opening a conversation, not realizing that whatever they say is not going to be very original. Reverse the situation and ask yourself what would you say to MJF if you stumbled across him on the street? I do try to correct things when they ask, for instance, is JZD still in prison? If you didn't want this kind of attention you would have bought a Corvette.

The one I hate the most is when they shout "HEY THAT'S THE CAR THAT FOLLOWS THE WHITE LINES DOWN THE ROAD!" at the top of their lungs as if you never heard it before. They always seem so proud of themselves when they blurt it out?
My reply to that one is "Yeah where else did you think Google got the inspiration for their smart cars"

You'll soon be hearing these cliches again because your new Delorean should be pulling into your driveway about now. But not on autopilot as yours is in an enclosed trailer. Good luck with your new baby and welcome back to the Delorean community. "The second times the charm".

Surprisingly, the number of comments and random people coming up to me has dropped since I first bought mine. I'll still get the occasional person coming up wanting to talk, but for the most part, I can take it out now and nobody bothers me.

Here in Belgium pleople do not care that much. They will look at you but seldom ask questions.
Sometimes I see people staring at me that I'm thinking "why is this guy looking at me like that?? Oh, yeah, I'm in the Delorean" :smile:

If I were on the other side--just a fan and I spotted one in the parking lot--I would hope the owner would give me the time of day and be polite. I try to be that owner. With that being said, I don't take it to stores.

My experience is >>95% of the comments are neutral or positive. I can deal with the very few that are less so.

If you want to avoid unpleasant people - as well as the pleasant ones - then try parking it far away from where people are.

At least it isn't an Edsel or an Aztek.

Honestly the answer is: "most of the times". You see, I think I'm a very nice guy if you know me well, but when it comes to engage unknown people I may seem tricky and withdrawn. This probably keeps people from asking questions about the car.

Of course I'm willing to answer to clever questions coming from clever guys, but as Johnatan perceptively said... "It's up to you!"

I try to be that owner.Can I bring the "+1" back for this? Seriously, I've literally been on both sides of this one, and this is the PERFECT way to sum up my sentiments. Actually, forget the +1, you get a 1-up mushroom for that one ;)

Prior to me owning a DeLorean of my own, I saw one at a car show. The owner was either a huge introvert, didn't speak english (he was, let's say "ethnic", and barely said two words total), or something worse. I was speechless at seeing it, but took tons of pictures (even nabbed one of the VIN plate -- I knew my stuff, even back then), and when my Dad went up to the guy to tell him I have always been fascinated by DeLoreans, he smiled but didn't say a word. I thought it was kind of odd, and somewhat rude, but thankfully I didn't let it taint my perception of DeLoreans in general. Interestingly enough, that VIN has remained off the radar for years, even now, and I suspect is still owned by the same guy. Still remember the custom license plate too.

It was that encounter that I didn't want replicated ever. It's with that in mind that even when I'm in a bad mood, when spectators show up, I put it on the shelf and let their good mood infect me. Even when that one guy pulled out in front of me without looking, then both of us stopped (crisis barely averted), and then he and all the passengers geeked out over it, and I pulled around and went in front of them. Now they'll have a story to tell their kids someday, with no honking involved.

Hilariously enough, the same damn thing happened in my Impreza, and the dickhead had the balls to honk at me until he saw the cop on the side of the street. Then when we stopped side-by side at the intersection, he rolls down his window and yells "don't f****n-" at which point I laid on the horn and shut him up, even though he literally didn't even stop at the stop sign in the first place and acts like it's my fault. Some people are pricks, I choose only to piss them off in my daily driver. I'm a nice guy otherwise in my DeLorean.

I live in LA, so there is always someone. You just have to keep smiling and remember your in a Dream car.

The times it is tough for me is when the car breaks.

I just had my trailing arm bolt break going 2mph over a speed bump. It was behind 2 food trucks at lunch. So there i am trying to figure out what happened. will the car drive? will i have to get it toed? The whole time having a few people pulling out there cell phone to take a picture of my broken down car.
