Getting the oil plug out.

I have tried a few times getting my oil drain plug out. i have not succeeded.

I have read that some people have removed the oil pan and got to it from there.

I am going to try again this weekend. I will try the fitting and one or two other sockets that i have.

Dose anyone know a good way to get it out?

I am tired of pumping it out all the time.

What drain plug is it (8mm square?). Can we assume you a have the right tool (Snap-on)?

i still could not break it free. Now it looks like a "star socket" hole.

I have a few star sockets i was going to try.

I am not sure if it is rusted on or just over tightened.

If you could post a picture of the end of the drain plug, it would help in trying to figure out a solution for you.

As Dave indicates, the OE plug for this PRV engine is 8mm square female. Some folks have ground down other tools or rods/bolts to get theirs out.

If yours is OE and is on there real tight then you'll want something that is hardened tool steel, like the 8mm square male SnapOn he mentions to do the job.

You say it looks like a star head inside it now? Then somebody has kind of rounded it out with the wrong tool or the plug is some non-OE plug. In that case follow Jonathan's req. for pics.

If it is all mangled up no tool will fit it properly anymore. Maybe a pipe wrench or a vise-grip. If not you will have to drill it out. It can be done without removing the oil pan. In fact, you DO NOT want to remove the oil pan if you don't have to. If you are going to destroy the plug, buy the right one and a tool BEFORE you take the old one out. Try to get one with a magnet.

So i finally got around to removing the old drain plug. I tried cutting a grove in the old one. I tried wedging a piece of metal in it to turn. These did not work.

i had to weld a socket on to the old plug and this finally got it out.

I am really happy i got this taken care of.

I am on to search how to bleed a clutch line again.
