Early VIN Windshield Cracked. Options?

Hey guys.

I was driving the D this afternoon. Sunny day, cooler weather. Good times. Heard a 'pop' like something hitting the windshield. Looked over and saw a crack.

My VIN is 910 which means I have the windshield antenna.

I seem to remember reading about more windshield options being available, including a repo with an antenna. I'd really rather keep as much of the early-vin 'oddities' as possible.

Anyone know of a replacement with the antenna? Used is definitely an option.

Is this something that needs to be done at a DMC shop or can a local glass place do the work? I've read that you need to support the roof with the glass out. What does this entail?

I'm not sure what gap he was talking about.

I too remember a company somewhere in europe that was making new delorean windshields WITH antenna in it. I've been trying to find the link but obviously all that info was lost with the .com->.org shift.

Anyone else remember this company? I'm still considering one of their windshields to replace my ridiculously scratched early windshield.

Sorry to hear about the sudden windshield crack. yikes!

As others are saying there is a company doing reproductions with the antenna. I thought I saved that link back in the .com days. I'll see what I can dig up.

At the factory the windshield was installed before the doors were put in place.
They also used a support jig while installing the doors to prevent deformation.
So the windshield actually has become part of the body and assures the firmness of it.

If you take out the windshield you put strain on the body('s top) as the doors are still on the car.
This strain from the doors "pushes" the top of the body down at the weakest point, the A posts, which then could deform more or less.

Supporting the top before removing the windshield keeps the body in it's indended shape, so the actual removal will have no (or not much) effect on the body (and A post).

Good to know lol. I never knew there was a difference between the early and later models. Of course mine is cracked straight up the center anyway...

I called Hagerty this afternoon. They told me to fax them the info for where to buy a replacement windshield. I emaled Euroglas this afternoon and asked if they had said windshield. I'll let everyone know what happens.
