I was getting axle boots replaced on my drive axle shafts and they had told me that my axle shaft was bent an 1/8 inch. I noticed DeLorean doesn't sell the whole shaft. My question is, does anybody make these shafts? Are they similar to another vehicle Axle Shaft? I told them to straighten it as close as they could for the time being. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Those shafts are pretty strong. It would take a LOT to bend them. Even more to straighten them! I doubt it is bent but if it is, a driveshaft shop should be able to straighten it. You would notice a very strong vibration if it was bent.

That's what I thought. I felt no vibration... we do all our driveshaft work through these guys, so I do trust them.

Used ones are VERY easy to come by. Make him show you it's bent though. The only way I can think you could possible bend one is lifting the car with a floor jack under the axle or the worlds stupidest tow truck driver hooking the axle.

+1

If it was really bent, you should get a very High speed vibration in the seat or chassis as speed increases.

I chased a vibration in my daughters car for quite awhile. Till one day I threw in the towel and replaced both half shafts. The vibration was gone. There was no physical distortion of the old shafts that I could detect visually, but they were the source of the problem.
