Im helping my sister in law by taking care of her DeLorean
cleaned off the engine and inspected for leaks ....yep found the DeLorean killer just waiting for the chance

Fuel injector connection unless I'm mistaken, you want to look where the the fuel line (#14) meets the injector (#'s 12, 13) on this diagram. (http://store.delorean.com/c-335-2-2-0-fuel-injection-system.aspx)

It's a fuel injector connection alright! Start spraying fuel and that puppy's a gonner. Good thing that was caught before it caused destruction.

I like ZEP degreaser, a toothbrush and plenty of elbow grease

Having a carburetor doesn't keep you safe from engine fires. That should be pointed out.

Apparently you've never seen what happens when a carb float sticks or a rubber fuel line breaks. I had a 66 Chevy, certainly carbureted, catch fire due to one of the above. It's not exclusive to high pressure pumps, Gasoline is Gasoline.

DeLorean killer is right! This happened to me a year and a half ago. Thank goodness I caught it in time before any significant damage was done.

Not silly at all. If you're asking, there's always someone else who is too, and this is a good question.

The hot exhaust system. From the manifold, to the catalytic converter on down will ignite fuel.

As you can see, gasoline will auto combust at around 530°F. Exhaust gas temperatures right at the manifold start at around 950°F. A leaking fuel line becomes a flame thrower that sprays liquid fire everywhere once it catches.

What did you do to clean the engine area all up?

I use "Engine Degreaser" from Walmart...spray it on it foams up and rinse with low pressure hose paying attention to distributor area

FYI I couldnt really see the leak because of all the crud built up but once removed wow you see the situation!

Folks the cat is just below the left head wouldnt take much to set that off!


Agree that old spark plug wires will do the same and they are almost laying on the lines!

Makes me even more happy that I had the new upgraded braided stainless fuel lines put in there recently to replace the old stock lines. One more important thing that the next owner of VIN 1150 won't have to worry about for a LONG time ;-)
