New dimmer switch not dimming..

I just installed a new dimmer switch from dmch and it is only on or off.. it wont dim.. does anyone know how the wires on a new one get hooked up??

If you changed to LED's the dimmer won't dim anymore.

painterdave72, I had the same problem. David T is correct, LED = no dimming. If it is just a replacement light, check to make sure your wires are making contact with the connectors that attach to the new light. Mine had a small break that came apart whenever I put it back in the headliner. I just bought a new set of connectors and crimped a new end on the cleaned up wire. I think Bitsyncmaster's dimmer relay fixes the LED issue, but I can't confirm it.

I think we are talking about the dome light "dimmer" "delay". Yes my unit will work with either incandescent or LEDs but it does require some wire changes in the relay socket.

Then you are talking about the knob rheostat that dims the instrument lights?

There are three wires that connect to the rheostat. If you connect them wrong, it won't dim, and something else won't work (I forget what). The red-white should be by itself and the red-oranges go together. Polarity does not matter

As a last (first) resort, test the rheostat with an ohm meter.

If it's one of the new ones it's not quite as linear as the original but it will dim the lights.

Hi Dave Swingle.. yes it is a newer one where the wires come off the rheostat.. and yes i have the red white one hooked to the red white wire from the car and the other ones one the other wires.. it doesnt do any dimming.. its just on or off...Dave...

Check it with an ohm meter. I put one in a car yesterday and it works fine, maybe a bad one? But it should work.

I checked it with an ohm meter.. i dont think it is any good... will houston send me another one?? I am going to call them mon morning...
