I don't think Ed sells them with the heater kit - depending on if you drive your car in freezing rain for great distances, you might want that, if not...

Eds are excellent quality - but you knew I felt that way already - I posted the review.

When everyone around you is swarming you to get a youtube video of you while they are driving, trying to wave to you, see what the hell you are driving, or they just don't see you because you are so low - you are the only one who can keep your car out of harms way, or get out of the way of the many morons. My first D was totalled by a gawker 18 months ago. While JZD set out to build a very safe car, maybe the best thing he could have changed for safety would have been to make it look like a ford pinto. Thank goodness he didn't go that far.

As far as essential equipment goes in my book - its:

1. Steering/Suspension
2. Brakes
3. Convex Mirrors
4. Seatbelts
5. Horn

the main difference between dmc.eu and deloreana.com mirrors is that Ed's mirrors have the "reflective layer" over the glass while deloreana.com mirrors have it under the glass.. plus the heating option as said before..
maybe PJ Grady could have some deloreana.com mirrors in stock!

Because the side mirrors are small and the rear visibility is so bad many drivers at least put one of those small round spot convex mirrors on the driver's side rear view mirror to help. Anything you can do to help is good but some of these mirrors take a little getting used to, especially the curved ones. Anything tinted doesn't do well at night.

Seat belts in cars were not standard equipment until the early 60's. I remember my dad buying them at dept stores for $4 and installing them in our cars.

Last time I said it's for (modern) safety reason, some purists got very emotional about it but... convex mirrors are for safety. Lotus folks add these to their cars because of cars' poor side and rear visibilities. I think Ds are not much better. It reduces blind spots and allows me to change lanes quickly and safely. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to get one for Lotus due to manufacturing issues. I heard that it is very difficult to manufacture and requires special tools. I am very happy with mine. Get one while you can.

Yea, and the dimmer (dip) switch is not on the floor and the headlight switch is not on the left. It takes many years before all of the automakers standardize things and then they start to change them again. New cars now have pushbuttons to start them again! On the 5-speeds no clutch switch. The older the car the less things are "standard". Get used to it. In airplanes they call it "training in type". I agree, anything that can make the car safer is worthwhile especially if you don't have to cut up the car or make major changes. One of the most necessary things, IMHO is the third brake light.

The oem delorean belts are fine when they work. On my first D the drivers belt did not retract well and was suspect for locking properly in an accident, so I replaced them with aftermarket. They did not exactly match, but were a lot cheaper.

Wow. I wasn't aware if this. Now I am really concerned. I often drive mine with my daughter. I think mine is working fine but do you recommend that I switch them out, just in case?

I googled this but couldn't find any articles about seat belt issues.
