Does ANYONE like the DMCH Dash

My dash is rough and so I'm kicking around several ideas....I have seen a few things about people against the DMCH Dash, but curious as to whether anyone who has it is happy with it?

Likewise, that's why I wanted to see if there was ANYONE that thought differently...Doesn't mean I'll end up buying the DMC dash, but curious if anyone's had a positive experience.

I was one of the pre-order buyers of a black dash. I don't know if they have changed them at all since the first batch, but I didn't really care for it. I think I had it for about two weeks before I sold it. I never even installed it in my car, so I don't know how the actual fit and finish would have been if I installed it. I just thought it looked cheap.

To be fair, I don't care for the stock dash either. I prefer a padded dash with stitching and a matching binnacle. Not covered in cheap vinyl, but something like leather or alcantara like you find in higher end exotics.

From the pictures, it looks to be like the original. I messaged the seller months ago and asked him a few questions, and I received a very detailed response. He says the dashes were made from molds and are exactly like the original, but it will need some trimming of excess vinyl to fit perfectly. IMO, I would buy one of these instead of one from DMCH.

I also believe that it uses a stock DeLorean dash base, and then was built up on that. Hence the original studs, etc. It does look interesting for sure.

I've heard lots of bad talk myself, how ever bought one anyways during a trip to FL. I have zero complaints about it. Great fix for the cost, fitment was decent (did the originals fit well? Lol). Only thing I don't like, and I was pre warned not to tighten the bolt vary tight, the studs are vary easy to snap off, once the nut touches your done, don't put any force into it

I saw them for sale at DCS 2014; to me they seemed cheap-looking, and IIRC they were priced to sell but nobody was buying.

Was not impressed with mine. Went back to stock and sold off my Houston one. I was disappointed by the quality. I figured for the priceI would've gotten a product comparable to the Original, if not better. But that wasn't the case.

It isn't wonderful, but it works. Better than a cracked dash. No passenger has ever noticed its not stock, but they do notice the cracked vinyl.

The color doesn't match - but at this point even NOS seems to have variation. I can tell you that with careful prep you can use the same SEM vinyl dye that you would use on the other interior parts. I dyed everything to match, including the DMCH dash, it worked. The dash is in and I don't think about it much. If that's good enough for you - you may be happy.

I had a recovered dash for several years, that I slowly grew to hate. The dash had been repaired, but when the lighting was right, I could see the filled in cracks beneath the vinyl. The vinyl’s “puffy” look didn’t look right against the end caps, and it didn’t fit correctly with the end caps. To top it off, the pattern in the vinyl was wrong. At that point, I figured anything was an improvement.

I bought the DMCH dash (http://www.16908.info/?p=2524), and right away, scratched some of the paint off. Not a problem, since I had some SEM Landau Black handy – just a few dabs with a toothpick and you can’t see it. Even if the finish isn’t durable, I keep it protected most of the time with a dash mat. The pebble pattern looks nice, although it doesn’t seem to be as prominent as the originals I’ve seen. As for the fit, I’d describe it as “meh.” It didn’t fit perfectly against the windshield. If I got one side fitted, the other was way outta wack. I ended up splitting the difference. It was only after installation I saw to grind down the edge closest to the windshield (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?10527-Installed-new-dash-help-with-arching-vents&p=155385&viewfull=1#post155385). If I ever remove it, I will do just that.

If you look closely at the dash, you can see the tops of the studs. Like others have said, don’t over-tighten the nuts, otherwise you’re going to pull the studs downward and make the problem a lot worse. And if you use a dash mat, use my magnet trick (http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?9454-Use-magnets-to-secure-your-dash-mat-in-place-on-a-reproduction-dash)!

Overall, for the price, I’m happy with it. If anyone else thinks they can mass produce dashes, with better quality, and keep the price near $300, I’m sure DMCH would like to talk to you when their supply runs out. If dashes were more expensive, people might be tempted to save money by repairing and recovering the originals.

If anyone else thinks they can mass produce dashes, with better quality, and keep the price near $300, I’m sure DMCH would like to talk to you when their supply runs out.Just my two cents: if this is the product of $300, and there's more than 90% dissatisfaction rate, I hardly think trying to make something else fit within that budget is the way to go. It's clear (to me, at least) that those who have the need to replace their dashes are going other routes. From a business standpoint, it would be wise for DMCH to address the issues with the dashes and up the cost accordingly. Having a stockpile of (essentially) dead weight isn't going to get them any money. As long as the cost is reasonably below the amount it would take to recover your dash, I still think people would buy it. They're not looking for "deals" with this part, rather quality.

If I recall correctly, recovering (at DPI anyways) is far more than the DMCH dashes, so there's still quite a bit of wiggle room. Hopefully the DMC franchises haven't given up on recovering dashes yet.
