I'm looking for an original locking gas cap, part 105137. I want a complete gas cap but I don't care if it is stuck or not. I am willing to rebuild/repair/clean it when I have it apart to have it re-keyed.

Thanks,
Alan

Alan, I have a cap with key that I never lock. Would you do a straight trade
for a non locking cap, with no money changing hands?

Paul,

My understanding is that the key should be your ignition key if it's the original that came with the car. As long as it's a factory locking cap and I can have it re-keyed to my ignition key that sounds great. It's even better if it can be used without locking it so I can use it between when I get it and when I can have it re-keyed. I didn't know it worked that way.

Should we take it to PM to arrange a trade?

Thanks,
Alan

The cap is keyed to the ignition key.

Alan, I tried every key that relates to the DeLorean, and none of them
seem to work. If your still ok with that, find a cap that will work on your
car and send it out. Soon as it arrives I'll shoot mine back to you. No cost
either way. Beings I never used the lock part, it's probably just dirty. I'll
include some keys that a locksmith might be able to figure out.

Paul,

I don't need a key, but I do want to make sure that it is an original factory locking cap and not an aftermarket one. As long as it's a factory one, I can take it apart and have it re-keyed. Does your ignition key go in and just not turn? If so, it's ok. If not, it's not the right locking cap.

Thanks,
Alan

My ignition key only goes in partway, so I may have an aftermarket one......sorry

Concours manual says door key...???
The concours manual is wrong. My original '81 owners manual says the door key is just for the doors and the other is for ignition, storage compartment, and gas cap. Empirically, my ignition key does unlock my storage compartment so that's right. The concours manual also says it should be the door key for that compartment. It looks like there are at least a couple of errors describing how the two-key system works in the concours manual.

The ignition key should fit the locking gas cap. With later one-key cars, it is of course the same key as the doors and ignition.

The cap can not be properly closed and sealed without the key. It can be "sort of" set in place but it won't really be latched or sealed.

I have some NOS locking gas caps w/keys. Some are stuck in the locks from sitting (WD40 hasn't worked so far) and a couple are perfect. Please PM or call if interested.

I've never tried, but I believe James has done it. I typically recommend removing them and keeping as a souvenir, and us the non-locker for everyday use. The risk of it locking permanently, or not sealing at all, is more of a pain than it's worth.

When's the last time someone stole your gas?

I think I had my lock guy do one or two over the years.
