I am still running the original AC Compressor/still R12, but picked up a new, in the box Sanden model U4709--- this model is designated for R134---will it work OK with R12??(I have about 40 pounds of R12---need to use it). Anyone know??? I am doing an engine conversion, and the hose connections on the 4709 compressor will fit my application better than the original sanden.
Thanks, Leroy 2126

Yes. But, if it was shipped with oil you need to dump it out.

Tag says has been filled with oil---what replacement oil does R12 use---

The manual (A:05:01) calls for Suniso 5GS or Texaco Carpella "E".
These are Mineral Oil with viscosity SUS/ISO = 500/100 (FWIW what I would use).

You could use ester oil if you plan to ever convert to 134a as it works with both refrigerants, but not as well as mineral oil with R12.
PAG is not compatible with R12.
