View Full Version : Fuel Fuel Pump Electrical Question - Which line is hot?

So I got the new baffleless fuel pump from Special-T, and it seems a good enough unit, though if I have one critique it's the minimalist instructions.

I'm supposed to splice the pump into the electrical, and to do this I'm going to use the old wiring harness from the old pump to connect to the proper plug that's already in there. Theoretically, anyway -- somebody has been in here before and it's kind of a mess.

Anyway -- I've been looking everywhere from the Delorean manuals to the internets, and I can't find the answer to the question -- WHICH is the hot wire in the wiring harness? Here's a picture.

One wire appears to be black under the filth and is on the right side (the "flat" side) and the other is perhaps a white wire on the left ("curvy") side.

Anyone know? :) Thanks as always!

White with Purple tracer.

White with Purple tracer.

Thank you! I'll clean up the wire to verify the tracer (it needs to be clean anyway ...)

I've been using Hervey's pump for a while now. It seems good so far. I was never the biggest fan with the plug he included. I just came across this I want to try instead:

I wanted to keep the original harness in tact too. So I spliced Hervey's connector on to the onignal pump harness.

Hey, wow! I totally stole your idea :) The second picture there I found on one of the forums, and that's what got me thinking to splice the original pump harness. It solves a problem on my D where the "car side" of the harness was poorly repaired by someone before me and super extra short -- I could not remove the car-side harness and splice very easily, so re-using the original harness is the only way to go.

From your picture, I was pretty of the wiring, but I posted here just to be 1,000% sure ... not something I want to screw up. Thanks for the response :D

The previous four pin connector I posted was incorrect. It took me a lot of searching, but this is what's required:

I got a random connector from the junk yard as well. with the engine swap id say about 80% of my exterior plugs are now weather tight. Good bye Lucas connectors.
