Hi there,

My bobbin had 4 retaining rings on the post that the spring rests against. I presume they were to keep the spring from popping off. Are they supposed to be there? If so, is there a part number, or were the included in some sort of kit.

Thanks,
Dana

My car has 4 of those nested to each other so that the stack snaps into the post groove.

Someone was recently selling off a dealer inventory on here. In the lot of items was a package of those retainers. He was trying to find a part number for them also.

Generically speaking, you can probably get fresh replacements a hardware store that carries the hillman line. I know I've spotted similar one-way push on retainers in an assortment box.

Supposedly they are part of this kit.

Hi Dennis, thanks, that's helpful. I'll try to find them again locally, otherwise I'll get that kit.

Cheers,
Dana

Hi Dana,

Those snap rings were recently mentioned here as well:

Also make sure the end of the top return spring isn't dragging on the slot on the pin that it rests on. If you don't have the recall kit snaprings on that post, the slot will often grab the end of the spring and cause it to bind rather than slide.

They are definitely part of the deice shield recall kit.

So, I thought I'd close the loop on this thread by showing the installation of the rings as part of the De-ice recall kit. I finally got around to this task.

This is the kit....(except for the throttle stop)

Here are the 4 retaining rings from the kit to replace the ones that were installed on my car, but were rusty...

I used an M10 nut to help install the rings on the post....

4 rings installed...

Here is the throttle cable clip installed. When I restored the engine a few months ago, I thought that the cable needed more support in this area as it was just hanging loosely. Now it is as it should be...

Shield installed..

Here is the complete kit installed. Per the instructions, I moved the black harness clip from the valve cover to the air cleaner housing. I think this kit makes the engine look more complete...

I think you should enter your car for concours judging at the next DCS.

At least do it once, before you start driving it.

You would get minor deductions for any upgrades ( shocks, lowering springs, new tires) but so what you would still get a strong score.

Thanks Dennis! That's quite a compliment! :thankyou:

Also, something to consider. I plan on being finished with the car by April. Well... I know it will never be done, but my parts boxes should be empty by then.
