View Full Version : Suspension Helicoil SP10413 on 5-3-0 rear suspension... intended purpose?

I saw these helicoils (qty: 4) on the rear suspension parts page. Were these used on the car right from the factory?

With two per side, and where they are shown on the diagram, I assume these were used to secure the calipers to the rear hub carrier? Is that right?

With the access to the bolt heads from behind, would these helicoils become the threaded part now in the calipers to tighten the bolt into and the assembly together with? Does this make reusing them, or putting in news ones if you need to do caliper work, more difficult?

Yes, they are factory installed to beef up the connection between the brake caliper and the cast aluminum carrier. You need to be more careful than usual when installing the calipers, as cross threading a helicoil is a mess to fix. Otherwise nothing special.

The helicoils are threaded into the casting, not the calipers.
