Auto trans serial number label location

I realized recently where the serial number label is on an auto trans.

You can see it here in this photo showing where the breather hole is:

On the right portion of this photo (which is the passenger side of the trans as this would be looking towards the front of the car when installed), can you see these two pieces of thin metal secured in place with that top bolt?

The more silver coloured one is the serial number label. I haven't been able to read entirely what is on mine yet, other than some of the numbering that doesn't make much sense to me yet.

My question was, what is this other piece of thin metal also attached to that bolt and what is its purpose?

It looks a bit yellowish/brass coloured in the photo, compared to the silver of the serial number metal piece, but mine is not much more than a rusty mess right now. I was going to remove it if it doesn't need to be there. Was it some sort of heat shield piece or bracket to clip something onto?

The bracket is used to lock the computer wireing down against the transaxle to keep it safe from harm. From there it loops up over the crossover pipe and is secured by barbed tiewraps on the L/H frame rail to keep it from contacting the exhaust system. When the computer is replaced it is not uncommon for the installer to forget the proper routing and wind up damaging the wiring/computer on the hot and unforgiving crossover pipe. That little bracket plays an important role in keeping the wires in the correct area.

Thanks Rob. That makes sense. Not the easiest thing to picture though. What are the chances there is some diagram or photo out there that shows the correct routing of the shift computer wiring? I don't even know how you would photograph that on a car while things are installed. It's hard enough to try and see as it is from underneath.
