My new project - Movie car

Hey there, it's been a while a posted here but I read every week.

I present to you my new project car.

I have decided to do a JP Jeep, because a Jeep is not a classic car, and it's what they call a beginner movie car. So it's not as complicated or expensive as doing a time Machine. So it should be finished next week.

You guys are the first ones to have a glimpse at it !

Lookin good so far! I've considered building one of these too and would love to own one some day. Just not enough hours in the day as it is for all the other projects I've got going.

Looks like you did a good job matching the paint colors and sheen on the finish. Did you use vinyl for the red or is it masked off/plasti-dip?

Is this Jurassic Park? I thought they looked diff in the original film. Sorry I haven't seen the new one and probably won't until it's on the movie channels.

That's terrible. Worst JPJeep I have seen, That white bucket is the wrong size and everyone knows it should be grey, and it's totally in the wrong spot - you need to scour an old airfield and find an authentic grey one. No, you can't take a cast of mine, find your own.

Must be something with tropical locales, as they managed to get the VW Bus started with an old tank of gas that was about maybe 20 years old too... though Hurley had to push it down a hill to get it to start.

Actually, we bought an old 1965 VW Bus that had been sitting for at least 15 years in the same spot - threw it on a charger and it started too..

Nice!! Excellent choice! This is such a fun vehicle and also gets a ton of positive attention!!

My friend and I did the exact same thing in 2012. We even went with the same number, haha! We chose 12 because it was 2012, not even realizing at the time that it was Nedry's jeep in the movie.

We took some liberties with the cosmetics. Obviously the rims aren't even close to screen accurate but that's because we like the fact that the tires are quite a bit wider than stock. We take it to the beach pretty regularly and prefer the large tires for that reason (kept the stock spare as a tribute, haha). Also changed the fenders to bushwhackers, the interior over to tan and went with Corbeau seats, and pulled all the carpet/upholstery (so the interior can get soaked if need be). We figured that it was the way we wanted it, and if screen accuracy junkies didn't like it, it wasn't our problem, haha :biggrin:.

Anyway, yours looks like a beauty!! Seriously, these things are a blast. The JP Jeep is definitely my favorite movie car after the DeLorean. :thumbup:

EDIT: By the way, you've got to pick up one of these if you haven't already. Released when the new movie came out; even has the right number! I was able to get one at Universal Studios Orlando. not sure where else they have them but there is always the interwebs. 3618736188

Man, that was my first thought too. And Hurley definitely rode that way farther down the hill than he needed to pop that clutch. There wouldn't have been room for a second/third attempt. :cool:

Hi mark, everything is painted. I didn't go halfway. the fender flares where painted beige by themselves and attached them to the jeep and painted the red.

It is the actual screen used color.

I'm really trying to make this one screen accurate. I'm still missing the front fogs and the winch, and also the green interior door panels with the leather pouches.

The Jabsco overhead light will be home next week. (these are pricey $$$$)

That Jeep must have been made before the high definition version of the movie was released. For years a lot of people thought that the color of the jeeps was silver/grey. As a result you see a lot of JP jeeps painted that color. As the movie got released in better and better quality, it became apparent that the color was actually a tan/beige color, not silver. The color just wasn't picked up very well on video tape or low quality digital releases. MartyP's is the true screen used color.

I have been thinking about what to get for my next movie car and would love to get a JP Jeep as my daily driver. But it looks like quite a bit of work to do the conversion. I am too impatient to put that much time into it. :) Maybe one day...

That Jeep with the D-Rex is a TJ, so that's far from screen accurate. But it all depends what you want.

You need a YJ (1992 to 1995) preferably already sand beige and preferably Sahara edition to have the side steps and right interior.

And rust will be your biggest issue here, as these thing DO RUST a lot, body and frame.

For the rest depending on which number you are doing, it is not really complicated. I went with the most complicated one with the overhead lights.

I'm doing mine as close as I can to screen accurate.

I am now seriously researching doing a JP conversion to a jeep. How much did it cost for you to have the paint shop do a complete respray with the red stripes and stencils, etc? I was considering if I get a jeep to have the base color sprayed and then maybe do the red parts myself (to save money). I'm just curious what you paid for that (in Canadian dollars).

The D has got to be top, for looks, good will and costs (unconverted, I really don't think a Delorean needs to be a TM to benefit from the warm feeling that BTTF stirs in people).
Closely forward by McQueen's mustang.
Several Bond cars are very nice & sophisticated but also very expensive.
Mad Max? Cool but abit too nerdy to actually live with.

I like the movie Bullitt as much as the next guy, but I think that car and chase scene get too much credit. Unlike most car movies, the Mustang in Bullitt actually has nothing to do with the plot of the movie. He just drives it in a chase scene and screws up the front suspension in the process. Especially considering the original Gone in 60 Seconds gets so little credit. Have you seen that movie? Practically the entire second half of the movie is a chase scene. Practically the entire movie is about that car. Way better movie car mustang in my opinion.

Also I think your list is missing quite a few very popular cars :) (ecto-1, blues mobile, KITT, etc.)

I was not a fan of the fourth generation of the Camaro, and when they stopped making it at the time (2002), I said that GM should have retro styled it to the first generation, as I love the 69. When I saw the first Transformers Movie in 2007, I was surprised that I enjoyed it (I had low expectations on the plot), and when they first showed that yellow Camaro, which was a concept at the time, I was smitten.

So that's why it get my vote.

I like KITT and several Bond cars, and maybe the General Lee.

I have to say that driving down the street in the Delorean (stock) still gets you more looks and thumbs-up than the JP Jeep ! LOL !
