How NOT To Sell

I know this is a weird question, but I'm forced with the probability of selling my 1982 DMC-12. The car is in amazing condition as I've spent thousands in renovation costs and upgrades over the past 6 years and two combat tours. My question is: How can I use it to make some money?

After the latest round of repairs, I'm done. I mean that literally AND figuratively. The car needs NOTHING and my bank account is drained. It's not in "perfect" shape (because no DMC is perfect), but it's a turn key Stage II with a DPI exhaust that looks and performs incredibly. It sounds amazing and purrs under a full throttle load. I've spent about $8,000 at PJ Grady having him fix stuff plus $14,000 for the more invasive renovations and upgrades, but I'm just drained. Other than the occasional "rent out" (and I have no idea what to charge there) how else can I make this car make ME some cash? I feel a little like it owes me! It's got 16,000 on it so I'm not big on renting it to drive.

Anyway, you folks are very experienced and enterprising individuals. I'd REALLY like to hold on to the car because I love it, but it's more than that. I have poured my heart, time and money into this thing so I want to have it until my son is a teenager or longer, but can't justify it to my wife unless I start getting creative with how it can possibly make me some money. Please help me save my De Lorean!!

Rich, thanks. You're awesome for sending that. I'll contact her, but it gave me a couple of ideas on people I can start contacting and college events coordinators are a great place to start.

I make about $1,000 per year on weddings, themed events, parties, TV shows etc. That is only renting it out March - November. I don't rent it out in the winter or wet.

It covers the expense of the car, plus the odd upgrade or two.

Use Craigslist and Kijii. You'll get a lot of responses. 1 in 10 is serious and will likely happen.

I'm an officer in the DeLorean Mid-Atlantic club (which covers Connecticut) and we get requests for DeLorean rentals all the time, especially with the October 21 date coming up. Joinig is $15/year, which can be more than covered in one rental.

There are also companies that will help you rent out your car for events. I know there are a few in the NY area, which may or may not be close enough to you to be useful.

I have been thinking about this my self. My car is not good enough to rent out. It would take thousands to get the interior up to par.

I was thinking of using it to advertise. At one point i did a lot of sales. I was thinking if i had something like this when i was pulling up to peoples houses. The ice breaker would be just eliminated.

Even if i could put some stickers on it. It might seam cheesy, but it is a way to make it pay for it self.

If you did a lot of contract work, OMG it would be perfect. Just having people remember your name because of it would be invaluable.
