Friends,
Once i get my exhaust manifolds off (I'm nearly there), My plan was to have them blasted, machined (flattened), and painted with POR-15 Factory manifold grey, similar to what DMCTalk member tgraham did with his:

My question is, what would be the preferred sequence to do this? Blast, paint, then machine? Or, machine, blast, then paint? I plan on doing the crossover pipe as well... if I can get it out, that is.

My direction would be, Blasted > Machined > Powder Coated and into the >>> Oven :)

Will powder coating hold up to those hot exhaust temps?
I planned to use POR-15 Factory Manifold Grey, as it is formulated for manifolds specifically.

Just like paint, they offer high temp powder for powder coating.
I've never had any luck with spray or can high-temp paints, even after careful preparation. Paint has only lasted a few years and then it would peal away or rust. I've used numerous brands including POR-15. The best luck I've had is with powder coating unfortunately.

I have had very good results with Eastwood products, including the factory gray manifold paint. Their paints seem to last longer than others.
In speaking with Dave Swingle recently, it sounds like Eastwood had a warehouse fire this Summer, so some products are on a long backorder.
Best to check with them before ordering, if you decide to go this route.

This is made just for hot exhaust manifolds and is a great product. You just have to remove any loose scale or rust, you don't have to have it blasted but you may have to have the manifolds machined flat if they are warped. If you don't and they ARE warped the exhaust gaskets will quickly fail. Easy to check with a straightedge. The paint chemically modifies the surface when heated, it is not just a paint coating and prevents further rusting. eastwood.com

I have the high temp powder coating on my car. had them done about 4 years ago and still looks the exact same. I'm pretty sure the coating was good to like 700-800 degrees??
