Shifter Assembly

Ok, so I'm working on reassembling the shifter handle ...PO had taken it all apart...

I know how to assemble the main peices...but there is the upper spring, m5 nut and washer bits Im not quite sure about....

If someone could give instructiosn how its supposed to be assembled, that would be great.....pictures would help immensely too.

Yes, I have that. It doesnt exactly show what to do with the nut and washer.

Rob, your VIN is 4877? Does your shifter look more like the later style or the earlier? The cut-off was supposedly at 4837. Mine is the earlier, so not sure if it will help.

Here are some pics. It is a little confusing at first because it seems like you should assemble it with the springing action going the opposite way. You want it to default back down to keep that collar in the groove down below, and so pressing the button raises it up. The early style one I have comes apart in the middle of the black plastic pieces, so while simpler to remove, it allows that collar to spin if you force the shifter without actually pressing the interlock button. Crap design, that's why it got changed.

I think the washer would normally be under the nut right there although it isn't showing on mine in these photos.

Mine is the newer shifter, yeah.

Looks like mine wasnt seated down enough to allow the metal part to slide all the way onto the shift rod..when I get to it later today, I'll have to reseat that I guess.

Ok, found my confusion..and solved it....seems there was a spring down where it shouldnt be, so the handle couldnt slide all the way down...
moved that spring where it needed to be, put the handle together..yaay....then forgot to put the Top Plate on....took t all apart, then put it back right...lol
