Hi guys,
I want to replace my old fuel sender, but can't get the ring to budge. Tried even a screwdriver and hammer on one of the ridges to try and knock it loose but no luck.

Any ideas?

Greg

I'd say grab a pipe/monkey wrench. :wrenchin:

I thought of that - too small and I have a pretty big wrench. I went ahead and doused it with wd40- we'll see how that does in a little bit. Lots of crud around the cap.

Soaked it with some WD40, waited about 10 minutes, then tried the hammer and screwdriver and it came loose. Took out the original sender, which was an orange see through plastic. The bottom was coming out and the top was completely loose as well. The float looked like it was some kind of cork that pretty much was against the whole inside wall. And thus why my fuel sender was no longer working. Got the new one in and all is well.

Not recommended to use a hammer and screwdriver. Too easy to crack it. Better way is to get a large pair of Channel Locks (water pump pliers) and unscrew it. Make sure when reinstalling you don't forget the rubber gasket and get it tight so it doesn't leak fumes.

It was just loosening up enough to give some small taps on one of the ribs- and it came loose nicely by hand. The new sender which is metal (why were the stock ones plastic???) went in fine and has a rubber gasket that comes with it. Dropped it in, tightened it down. Seems to work fine but my gauge reads 3/4 with a full tank. Also takes a while for the gauge to register (about a 15 minutes into driving).
