Wildfires will happen regardless of global warming, Norcal isnt a fireproof swap. But yeah the drought sure made everything worse.

So much for Global Climate Change and all of the greenhouse gasses (CO2) released by burning all of that wood. A shame that people have to lose their homes and possessions but maybe those houses shouldn't have been built where they would burn? Maybe the codes should have created more fire-breaks and more fire-resistant construction? All too often these calamities are brought on and/or made worse by poor planning and the need to allow more tax ratables.

That is indeed it, yes. You can also tell by the post-fire pictures as well. You can see the two-story building behind the car, as well as the neighbor's home that survived with their unique windows and solar panels.

Yes, and its the agree and disagree crap I want to avoid. It wouldn't be 2 post before someone blames a political group, or says climate change doesn't exist, and someone's screaming it does.. It's better for everyone to avoid the drama. Now, back on topic....

Not sure about anyone else but that car looks like it was a non-running car that's been sitting for a while. It appears the right front wheel is missing. I seriously doubt that would have happened because of the fire.

I agree. But it's also a good lesson here to be learned: If you don't restore the car, or at least sell the thing off to someone who can, it's just going to get destroyed one day anyways. And I know that this seems pretty hypocritical coming from me of all people, but I'm going to say it: Don't be so damn lazy and/or selfish with your car. No matter what they are.

If it's not a wildfire, it's going to be a tow truck sent by the city to enforce an ordinance, or just looking for derelict vehicles no one wants to get scrap metal out of them. Either way, it's going to be destroyed because of you. Get it running, or just sell the thing off already to someone who can.

It was in PERFECT condition! Of course you would need to have plates and insurance on it, even if it was a non-runner at the time! Otherwise you might have a problem getting anything. Anyone whose house burnt to the ground is going to have other, more pressing problems right now. Like where to live, recreating all of their paper records, buying all new living items, etc. This situation I would not wish on anyone. In the scheme of things the car is the least of their problems right now. The good news is there have been few injuries or fatalities because of all of the fires.

To recover any kind of loss on vehicle, you must have active insurance on said vehicle at the time of loss. If your vehicle is parked inside your garage and the garage burns down all contents within the garage qualifies for a claim on your homeowners policy. (Excluding Registrable vehicles) of which separate insurance policies apply (Auto,RV,Motorcycle,Snowmobile,ATV,Boat etc.)

From the looks of the satellite view, This individual had a substantial collection of Motorized , shall I say, STUFF. The likely hood of anything (not running) being actively insured would be slim at best IMO. Its just human nature to not to what to pay insurance on something that is parked and not running. If you have a secured loan on a vehicle you must carry insurance on said vehicle all times. If you have a car that is only driven in the driving season it must have full coverage. During extended periods of non-operation you must have storage coverage. (usually quite cheap) This is only if their is a secured loan against said vehicle. Once your loan is satisfied. It's at the discretion of the operator to maintain minimal coverage during periods of non-operation.

I would also image you can't suddenly see there is potential danger in the area and quickly get things covered by a policy. I would expect their to be a a 30 day coverage exclusions within the policy. Kind of like National Flood Insurance has a 30 day effectivity delay period. You can't get coverage 2 days before that hurricane hits.
