1st repair made on new acquisition

Really proud to have completed my first repair...well actually just swapped out the door logic controller with a new digital one, and everything sprang to life.

Got the digital controller from DMCMW, but it didn't have any instructions as to what the yellow and orange wires are supposed to do. Anything I need to know about those?

Thinking about giving up on the turn signal not functioning issue, and probably will give that to DMCMW to do over the winter. Hazards don't work either. #4 fuse was fine and replaced, #6 fuse was fine and replaced, and I replaced the signal flasher unit under the dash. The PO had already put in the DMCH version because he changed the taillights to LED, but I bought another believing that was likely the simplest solution, but no go on that either...identical results..no turn indicators & no hazards.

Those 2 wires are used to pair up to the keyless remote module DMCH sells as an accessory.

If you did not buy a keyless remote to go with your door lock module then just isolate those wires.

DMCH does have a 2 page instruction sheet for the door lock module explaining the wiring.

Thank you. I think I found one source of the problem... The Hazard switch is not connected to anything, and turn signals run through that. There are no wires off the back of the hazard switch.

I'll remove the middle console tomorrow and see what's lurking behind it.

I was going to suggest look at your hazard switch. If those go bad you can loose your turn signals. But it seems you already figured out it wasn't connected. There should be a black connector that plugs into the switch. If you can't see it it might be burried in all the wires behind the radio bracket. I can't imagine why someone would cut the wires off the hazard switch connector.

Looking at how many wires are going into it, that would explain a lot as to why your signal lights aren't working.

Removed the center console...really debated about that. I bet taking it out was a lot easier than I'm going to find putting it back!

But I did indeed find the hazard light switch connector laying at bottom of the heap of wires. Mated it to the switch, and I got both turn signals and hazard functions working. Hooray.

While I'm in there I'm going to replace the console lights with LEDs.

Another thing that was interesting as part of this work is that there is now a high pitched whine noise coming from the engine compartment. The engine is off. Its very high pitched, but very low volume. My 15 yo son can hear it easily, I have to put my ear right near the grates on the engine cover to hear it. Have not seen that discussed in any threads I could locate.

I assume you have the key switched to on. Do you have any electronic units added to the engine? The idle motor will run but it's frequency is pretty low 100 Hz.

Does the high pitched whine vary with engine RPM? Remove the belt on the alternator and see if it goes away. If you still hear it remove the A/C belt and try again. The frequency valve does make a noise, maybe that is the noise?

Disconnected Hazard connector and whine stopped. Maybe why it was disconnected in the first place.

No other electronics that I am aware of in the engine compartment except some LED lighting in the air cleaner. Which was not powered at the time.

I'm going to spend more time on it next weekend and see if I can recreate on demand.

Maybe you have an alarm in the car? If so you should dissect it out. Weird that the hazard switch should cause that.

Would a power antenna that's trying to go up/down but is stuck for some reason cause this? I don't think those antennas are generally wired into the hazards switch though. Just something else that came to mind you could double check. If your car came with one (not quite sure based on your VIN), it'd be in the faux vent in the driver's rear quarter and the wiring for much of it is behind the driver's seat in with the ECUs.

I ran out of time this past weekend to recreate the symptoms and isolate, and need to pick it up this coming weekend.

I'm happy that my son has enough interest to work on this with me...given all the distractions teens have these days.

I remember years ago I helped a friend install an electroluminescent license plate frame. For some reason, when it was on, the inverter would let out this very high pitched whine that was not very loud but friggin annoying. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcniCVgOJL0 at the 2:50 mark they test them, not sure if it's the same sound or not.

I tried to list anything that might produce a "signal" but the other (good!) suggestions reminded me that I forgot shared power and to put "pull the remaining fuses one at a time" too near the end of the list. (Guessing you would have anyway tho ;-)
