View Full Version : Frame & Body Engine Cover Latch cable....

Im wondering how and exactly where does the bracket that holds the interior handle of the engine cover latch attach to? I tried peeking my head back there and
feeling around..but couldnt find anything....Anyone have good insight on this?

Good question. I thought I'd be able to quickly tell from a pic of my own car, but I'm not convinced.

The parts diagram says it is a pop rivet.

On the wall side, which you can't see in my photo. Probably straight into the fiberglass the same way the bonnet lever is at the front of the car.

Did you happen to notice the little icon on the end of the engine cover lever?? :)

Ahh pop-rivet...evil....lol. I'll have to see what I can do about it.

Nope, didnt notice the icon on it..I'll be in there today doin some work...have a look then..hehe.

Yes it is riveted to the top of the fibreglass pontoon wheelhouse area. They sometimes break free and make a run for it!!!

Any way to reattach without having a rivet gun thingy?

Provided that the old rivets are already removed, get a rivet gun and put new rivets in it. Otherwise get some small stainless bolts/nuts and put it back together. If you look in the wheel well you'll be able to see the holes for it.

1. Get a rivet gun and a pack of 1/4" rivets at your local hardware store, they are very inexpensive.
2. Put a new rivet in.
3. Profit.

This car is literally FULL of riveted pieces, and you will be replacing more of them over time. (Can anyone say front grille?) It is a good investment to make, trust me.

If you don't want to leave the couch, $14 on Amazon gets you a rivet gun with aluminum rivets. However, I'd spring for additional aluminum or stainless rivets, you never know if you'll need a longer one or what not.
