Installing New Automatic Antenna

I just bought from DMCH a automatic antenna kit. Took off the screw on antenna from front passenger fender.

The instruction that came with the kit is just one page with 2 pictures. One shows the driver side taillight removed and th eother picture shows the cut out template for the vent. No other pictures.

Anyone have pictures of installation, mainly of the bracket and antenna? I have no idea how they line up exactly or how they bolt on.

The bracket attaches to the bolts that go through behind the taillight. Pretty simple but hard to take a picture in there. The wires go through the rear bulkhead and come out behind the driver's seat by the ignition ECU, under the center console, then up behind the radio. Power for the antennae comes from the circuit breaker for the door module across the package shelf. Be sure to use an in-line fuse holder on that wire. Be careful cutting the fin on the louvre. The area the antennae lives in is accessed by removing the 4 bolts holding in the carbon cannister in the left pontoon.

My car is completely apart, so will be easy to get in there. I just have to wait to install fenders back on to hold bracket in place.

One thins I am puzzled is mounting the antenna onto the bracket. Doesn't seem like it goes in well or even bolts on well.

I found this picture for you. Hope it helps somewhat. Make sure you get the top retaining ring very tight so the antenna mast can't move around. Mine came loose and and antenna got caught up on one of the vent fins. I ended up having to replace my antenna.

I already came across those pictures, but doesn't really help. My antenna does sit right.

It is not an exact fit. Plan on drilling holes in the bracket where the antenna mounts at the bottom. The current antenna is different from the 1981 antenna. Sorry, I've been meaning to write this up when we do one, but I have not had a chance to.

So this is as much flat to the bracket the top section can go, there is a gap there. Thats how it is supposed to be, with a gap??

I have to make holes on bottom and connect like that?? Holes will be very close to edge in order for to sit straight.

When I installed mine, I believe I used some nuts as spacers so the bottom so the antenna was siting flat on the bracket.

It's a D. Make do and mend. Hack and file to make it work. I did this job two weeks ago, maybe I got lucky with my setup but it was pretty straightforward compared to routing the wires through the center console to the radio and the power wire across the rear shelf to pick up the +12 from the relay compartment.

If you're frustrated about it just leave it alone for 48 hours, enjoy life, and when you go back to it with a fresh mind it will be obvious!

So do I have the top section mounted correctly?? lol. Thats what I keep asking people and they fail to answer that simple question.

No. The roundy part should be under the bracket with the black ring over the bracket.
