Retrosound Radio reviews

Hi there! I want to do some sort of improvement to the audio quality in my Delorean VIN 3305. I plan on replacing speakers and radio.

Currently I own the original Craig Radio and I listen to some FM station while I drive. I'm not very fond of radio broadcasting and I would like to put on my own music, and I would find pretty easy to do that with an USB flash drive. Searching the web for reviews and chances, I stumbled upon Retrosound Radios. The options I found suitable are two:

Now, I've read many different comments about those radios. The main thing that I can enjoy is that I don't need to replace the whole bracket because this radio is little enough to just fit in there. Then it has got some interesting features such as usb ports and bluetooth connectivity, not to mention that the original look of the car will be more or less left untouched.

The fact is: is this brand good? As I told you, I've read negative comments about Retrosound Radio MODEL 1, I can't find anything about MODEL 2 which is the one they are selling at the moment.

What do you think about it? And what about this "Hermosa" option? (first link)

Have you considered hard-wiring an auxiliary input to the Craig? May be a good option since you wanna keep the original look. Won't be a USB/bluetooth, but you'd still be able to hook up your ipod or mp3 player. That's what I plan on doing to mine. As for the Retrosound, I haven't had any experience, but I've heard good and bad. They seem a little too expensive, and I don't think their units match with the DeLorean interior to be honest.

I can't comment on their quality, but for that price, you could get a great Kenwood or Pioneer head unit.
I know you're going for a close to factory look, but those prices are crazy expensive for a head unit that lacks: AUX/CD/Bluetooth/HD radio/apple, pandora, etc support, etc.

personally, if you already have the Craig, and want an additional feature, I too would look into hardwiring an AUX port to the Craig.

Basically what I need is to 1) avoid getting the new faceplate, 2) listen to the music from a portable device such as mp3 player, 2) maintain the original look. No need for CD or cassette and AUX OUT features.

I find the Retrosound too expensive myself, even though it looks great and it starts out from a good idea (its old-standard dimensions).

Is there a "how to" run a mini jack cable and plug it to the CRAIG? I can't figure out how to possibly switch from TUNER to AUX...

I have been contemplating getting one myself. I agree that the price is high, but I like the fact of Bluetooth options in the medium price range radio. And it looks more like a factory radio.

Another option... Try eBay for a Kenwood KRC-3006.
It's a two knob radio with built in cassette. Also has aux connection for a cd changer.
It also has line level outs for separate power amps if you really want to go for it.

I can't speak to the quality as I don't have one myself - Still have the old Craig - but I've been tempted a number of times.

Do you think it's possible to use the AM channel for the AUX instead of the FM one?

I have the kenwood radio you are talking about.. it has cd changer controls and I have used it for about the last fifteen years or so with no problems.. it works great!

I wanted to keep the Craig, so I sent mine to Dave, had it refurbished, and they added a hard wire Aux jack that I can use my I pod...I did replace the old blown speakers... and now I am happy...

I was in the market for a DeLorean radio (http://www.vintagecarradio.com) and picked up one from Custom Autosound. It has built-in bluetooth which is a nice feature. Paid just over 300.00 for it.
