Hi there,

I'm getting my Delorean fixed at the moment and my mechanic has told me the fuel distributor and fuel regulator need replacing as well as injectors.
The car had been sitting around for ages and the fuel pump was pretty degraded.
So I was wondering what you guys thought? Could those parts have been gunked up by the broken fuel pump? Last time I drove it there was no power whatsoever.
I just have very little idea about this stuff and I don't really want to spend heaps on it if there's maybe an alternative solution.

Thanks,
Pete

If the car has been sitting around for ages, then IMHo probably yes. The fuel will degrade into a "Varnish" type of goo, which will pretty much glue everything shut. This requires replacing the Fuel Distrbutor, Fuel injectors, and most likely the Fuel pump also. Some people have been able to take a car that has been sitting for several years, get it running and eventually get it running pretty well (by running the hope is that Fresh Fuel will clean out the gunk - but this is not a common occurrence)

More than likely you will need to rebuild the fuel system.

Your location may be cost prohibitive, but the distributor can be rebuilt by any vendor. Some injectors may be salvageable, too. It all depends if your mechanic is willing to put in the effort or if he just wants to throw all new parts at it.

Hey thanks guys,
Yeah I think I'll just go for it, I already have a new fuel pump, might as well hit these other areas and get it on the road again!
