Which glue for interior quarter panel reattachment?

I used a heat gun to carefully remove the panels to replace the rear speakers. The job wasn't really as difficult as I would have imagined. Is there a recommended adhesive and technique to reinstalling?

I didn't re-glue mine... Just gently folded it over the lip and re-installed the outer door seals. That should be enough to hold it in place and makes it easier to remove in the future. The vinyl is typically pretty brittle so the lesser number of times you glue and un-glue the better.

Oh that's interesting. I noticed that the vinyl gets pretty stiff when it cools, so I can imagine that it plus the door seal might be enough. No problems with it rattling or anything?

I did the same thing.

No extra adhesive, just reheated whatever small amount was still on the vinyl.

Between that, the door seals and the screws at the top and towards the rear, it stays in place pretty well with no noticeable rattles.

I also did not reglue the trim but if you feel you must use 3M Trim adhesive, get the clear stuff.

Hindsight being 20/20 about the only warning I would give is that there may be too much movement allowed with it not glued.
Mine has some cracks in it now near the door seal. Not sure if this is because it's just brittle and would have happened regardless or if it's a result of not being attached to a backing for support.
Anyway, your mileage may vary so do what you feel comfortable with.

Exactly what I did. I applied heat as I was putting it back on, it stuck perfectly! No issues with tearing or it coming lose again.

I did not glue mine, and while it never moved or made noises, it did crack terribly (to the point I have a whole strip missing that is supposed to go under the weather strip) but I've also had to remove it quite a few times during the life of my car.

Yes, thats the other thing to keep in mind - you will probably have to remove the panels again in the future.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I used a heat gun to re-wrap the vinyl around the fiberglass and it's holding perfectly.
