Was doing some general clean-up in my engine bay and noticed how easily the spark plug cap for cylinder #6 came off. It looks like there isn't a lot of slack in the plug wire, probably because of the way it is routed or has been pushed or pulled over the years while reaching for something.
I have had replacement plug wires, spark plugs, a new distributor and rotor for some time. Just never got around to (needing to) installing them. Figured now might be a good time.
I don't see a how-to for this, and maybe one isn't needed. The question I had was really just a matter of how much needs to come out or off to give you enough access to do the job?
I can likely do the spark plugs alone just fine with only what is off right now (mostly just the air filter housing). To do the plug wires though, it seems like the fuel mixture unit, if left where it is, might not give me the access or view I need to reach the other end of the plug wires. Then of course, if the fuel mixture unit is coming out (or at least loosened and moved), then I'll do the distributor cap and rotor at the same time.
So, does the fuel mixture unit need to move somehow to give access to the electrical distributor and plug wire ends? And if so, how does one move or remove it while upsetting as little as possible with the fuel system? Is there a way to move it and keep the fuel loop itself contained without breaking into anything otherwise nice and sealed?
I'm also likely right around that 30,000 mile mark deserving an overall tune-up, so spark plugs and wires would be a good thing to do if not terribly complicated.
