Since my recent engine upgrade I am experiencing some clutch shipping issues. My rough guestimate of power at the flywheel is 350hp/350ftlbs. I am currently running the stock valeo clutch, which is not long for this world...

Nick has had luck with the uprated Hervey clutch & pressure plate, but after contacting him it looks like he is sold out of pressure plates.

Looking around i found the centerforce clutch, but cannot find any specs of holding power.

Going across the pond and looking into Alpine A610 clutches I found this. It is claiming 650Nm (480ftlbs) of holding power at the pressure plate.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, I would like to get this figured out this winter!

Thanks in advance, Josh

Put the stock engine back in so vendors can service it. Be sure to change the tires if they are original. Classic car insurance may be good for you, depending on how you use your car. Also, be sure to put in a new battery. Coolant hoses are need as well if they have not been done.

Did you ever look into the AP Racing clutches? I've always heard good things from the GT40 folks. Only issue is the different flywheel bolt pattern.

I'm intrigued by that Alpine clutch.

EDIT: Actually that Alpine pressure plate looks damn familiar. Probably because thats the one Hervey sold me years ago!

Heres a photo of the one on that site:

And heres a photo of mine (from when I first got it):

I always wondered where Hervey got his uprated plate. Guess the mystery is solved. Also I guess that explains why it's always held so well. Glad to know I can get a replacement if I ever need one.

Im getting some cold feet in regards to re-working my flywheel. I would like to pursue a bolt in unit first. But it looks like a very viable option.

Another option would be Hervey's Kevlar clutch disc and the originally linked A610 pressure plate. Since you have had good luck with your setup Nick.

Also I like this clutch disc. I might consider that in the future.

I saw that. Puck style would handle the power better but sacrifice drivability. Also the price is getting up there.

I agree, I've had surprisingly good luck with the kevlar clutch I got from Hervey.

I've never seen a photo of the one I got on his website though. I have a feeling he just has general photos and sends whatever he has.

This is what mine looked like. It still holds really well, though I have no idea at what rate it's wearing at. I'm at probably 10,000-15,000 miles and still going strong.

Also I understand the hesitation behind a new flywheel. I drew up a new one that will work with the AP Racing for me too but still cant bring myself to machine a new one unless I really have to. I'm sure you'd rather not make another one also; especially with the integrated pilot bearing.

the A610 clutch is the way to go (not a personal experience but there's a lot of great feedbacks from the Alpine guys, especially with modified engines)

note that the clutch kit on the mecaparts site are not renault original A610 one (and I guess they are clutches for the 2.5 turbo engine), this is an original A610 clutch:

Thanks for chiming in! To me the pictured clutch looks extremely similar to the delorean valeo. Do you have a source for the original a610 clutch?

the main difference is the pressure plate for sure. you should contact the Alpine parts guru from this site http://www.simon-auto.de/alpine/englisch/alpine.htm

Try spec clutches. I have one in my Fiero with the 3800sc . They make puck clutches and may be able to help. Just an idea.
