I was at work and was helping a guy and his wife out to find when a product came back in stock. While waiting for a reply from my swamped co-workers I noticed he was wearing a GTO shirt. Since the logo was that of the 04-06's I asked him what year he had. He replied 05. I then proceeded to ask if it had the 5.7 or 6.0, stick or auto? He replied stick and 6.0. I smiled, and commended him on an excellent purchase.
I then proceeded to ask him if he knew who was responsible for the GTO. He said it was Holden from Australia. I replied yes, your car is practically a Holden Monaro, but I was referring to the brainchild, the person behind the first GTO.
He did not know. I asked him if he knew DeLorean and he said yes, the stainless steel car right? I replied yes and said that the person, John Z DeLorean, was behind the GTO, and that the man pretty much ushered in the era of the Muscle Car. We parted ways after that, but I know he was intrigued, maybe even impressed. It feels good to teach sometimes.
