Hello guys,

I realized I have a missing pin clevis in my brake pedal, Part #106062 and number 7 here: http://store.delorean.com/c-358-6-3-2-brake-pedallinkage-manual.aspx

since it's NLA I am interested in buying a used one or reproducing it, do you know the exact dimensions of this piece?

I already opened a new thread in the "want to buy" section: http://dmctalk.org/showthread.php?13026-Brake-pedal-quot-pin-clevis-quot

Best regards

Have you tried contacting DMCH? I mean, that's a pretty integral part of the car, being able to stop and all. And if they're going to be building new cars anytime soon, they're going to need that part. So it would make sense that a substitute part should be on the way.

How big is the hole? Take a caliper or steel ruler to the hole and measure it (or measure the old pin if you have it). They sell clevis pins at nearly all hardware stores. I had to replace mine for the clutch and bought one at ACE Hardware. It had multiple holes in it and you just select the hole you need and cut the pin down to the size you need. Theres nothing special about this particular pin that makes it specifically a DeLorean part; its just a pin.

McMaster also has a massive selection of clevis pins: http://www.mcmaster.com/#clevis-pins/=10kgtkd

Based on the photo on DMCHs website, I'm guessing it's 10mm, though a 3/8in would also probably work. Looks like probably 25mm/1in long.

If I had to guess, I'd say this is your pin: http://www.mcmaster.com/#93131a410/=10kgw2w

Sorry guys but wrong and wrong! Since I wear one around my neck as a pendant I measured it for you and surprise, surprise, surprise! It's not metric! it measures out at .482" wide X .750" long at the clevis hole center line so you should be ordering a 1/2" X 3/4 clevis pin with a cotter pin retention hole or failing that a pin slotted for a horseshoe clip.
Rob

P.S. How did you suddenly come to realize the pin is gone? Is your car taken apart? Otherwise you must have a very long pedal!

Thank you so much Rob!

I realized there is one bolt instead of the pin....

The 10mm was just a guess based on the picture that is on the website; looks like I guessed low.

.482" isn't a standard inch size either. Is that a new clevis pin around your neck or a used one? If it's new, it's pretty far out of tolerance for a .500" clevis pin. Its closer to 12mm than it is to .5" (though .009" larger). I know they snuck standard threads in a few places on the car, but to use a half inch pin instead of a 12mm metric pin, when the rest of the pins on the car are metric seems odd.

A DIN 1444B, 12mm (.472") X 25mm (.984") long pin, is 19.5mm (.767") at the hole centerline.
An ASME 18.8.8M .500" X 1.00" long pin is .828" at the hole centerline.

Honestly, after 30+ years the hole has probably opened up a few thousandths to where it doesn't matter which pin you use. Even if it is 12mm, a .5" pin may fit better anyway. The slight difference in usable length isn't going to matter either. Either of the 2 options should work fine; though Rob's .5" pin is probably easier to find at a local hardware store since metric hardware isn't as common in the US.

I was surprised too Nick but it measures in metric at about 12.4 mm so that's not standard either. The .750" (about 18 mm) at the the pin hole center line was what leads me to believe it's in inches as untypical as that sounds. The pin is used but there are no grooves or signs of wear and I come up with the same measurement down the length of the pin. The pendant thing was a joke albeit not a good one.
The next thing to do Babis is measure the booster clevis rod hole and see if it's big enough for a 1/2" pin to fit. A 12 mm pin is bound to have too much play. I don't ever recall replacing one of these pins so I'm hazy on the subject.

You'd be more comfortable if you built a house down in that pumpkin patch while you're waiting.

Maybe so. But I'm pulling for those cars to come become a reality.

That clevis pin is a good litmus test for the shape of things to come.

Ok back to reality...the booster rod clevis hole is .502" so a 1/2" x 3/4" pin should work perfectly and be easy to find.

better to go with stainless or zinc plated steel?

If thats the case, then it sounds like you're right, .500" standard pin it is. A .5" pin should be about under .500" between .005-.010 anyway so it sounds like a good fit. And it should be easy to find locally.

Rob any idea what company sourced the brake booster for DMC? Maybe they were a company that used standard hardware. Of course them you'd think the studs for the master cylinder would also be standard. Its a mystery I guess...

I guess I am going with mcMaster part number 97245A703 (pack of 5) http://www.mcmaster.com/#clevis-pins/=10l6bju, you can find it under " Clevis Pins with

Looks like a winner? Hey maybe you should be sourcing parts for the "New builds"? I see a consultant's position in your future.

.......and what about the clutch master pin clevis number 12 here http://store.delorean.com/c-383-4-4-0-clutch-pedal-linkage.aspx (pn #106061) ?
I see that the washer is a M8, so I am guessing this one is metric...

Yes but I don't have a pin handy to measure but about 15 mm to the hole should work nicely. Found another bolt I guess?
