Looks like there is another book coming for your DeLorean library, this time a fictional novel by a Belfast writer about the setting up of the factory in N. Ireland

Finally I got around to buying and reading this book and I really enjoyed it.

It's a fictional account of life at and around the setting up of the factory centered on a high-level manager with JZD's ear and a regular line-worker. Mixed in are all of the real life people that we know - JZD, Haddad, Landers, Chapman etc.

Mostly well researched, (though there are some odd phrases like "3 transporters of cars, 24 on each transporter" !), and it covers all of the main highlights in the factory's short life, as well as accurate representation of life in Belfast at the time.

I don't know how I missed this. I was pretty intrigued until I saw the comment about JZD being a conman. Still, I might break down and purchase this one.

What comment?

It doesn't portray him as that at all. Mostly he's the hero to the factory workers and the rest of the time he's working to raise money.

Whether it's written with rose tinted (or conman-tinted) glasses is up to the reader to decide ;)

I think you'd enjoy it Louie.

The Amazon description talks about JZD being a "world class conman," glad to hear that isn't the tone of the actual book, though.

After your initial comment I had to go investigate, thinking it was a reader review comment on Amazon and was surprised that it was in the Product Description. I wonder who writes those? The author or a publisher.

I suppose if you were already in the "JZD was a conman", you could certainly read the book in that manner.

Relatedly, here is an interview Patterson gave last year

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/john-delorean-a-visionary-or-a-charlatan-1.2488641

"Even after writing the novel and the radio play (and a screenplay) I cannot decide whether John DeLorean was a visionary or a charlatan. If he really did gull a lot of people, though, then he also succeeded in gulling himself right to the end."
