View Full Version : Engine Delorenzo's Oil

Frustrating to say the least been driving my car for a week and a half and it has an oil leak, I went to the shop 5 mile round trip. And when I came back home I could see a small puddle of oil under the car. Upon closer inspection It was dripping down the seam between the engine and gearbox.
Now I had my gearbox taken out to have the clutch replaced in December and the mechanic did the rear main seal and the driveshaft seals. Both Dmc parts. So I'll be majorly pissed if it's that seal that's leaking.
The caveat to that is my car has a dead frequency valve so it's running quite badly and I discovered was low on oil I don't know if the machanic didn't put in enough or I've been slowly leaking or even burning oil. Other than that the car is fine. Oil pressure is fine no oil lights on, and temperature is fine. I'm running 10W40 semi.
So the question is, is it usual for the main seal to leak so fast after being replaced, is it the wrong oil causing leaks? Or oil pressure related and my gauge isn't good? my previous Delorean never had any leak issues except the drive shaft usual. Or is there anywhere adjacent to the main seal that could be the culprit I.e the sump plug squiring oil out or something random.
Any help would be greatly received

Did he replace the paper gasket? Did he get the seal on straight with the spring intact? There are a couple of ways to mess this up.
That oil is not under pressure, so that is not related. It's a problem with installing the seal/gasket.
IMO 10W40 is too thin but that's not the problem.

Make sure the crankcase is not under any pressure and the venting system is hooked up and working. Fill the motor up to the half-way between full and cold when cold and level. Make sure the dipstick is fitting correctly and the rubber seal is in place. If it isn't you are not checking the level correctly. If yo continue leaking motor oil the rear main seal is leaking, probably because it was installed incorrectly. Sometimes it is better to leave things alone if they are OK. That rear main seal doesn't need to be replaced unless it is leaking.

Thanks for the advice guys. I seriously doubt they installed it incorrectly as they are so thorough its untrue.
But he didn't to my knowledge replace the paper gasket. I was kinda hoping it was the slave cylinder or line leaking as my clutch has been a bit difficult and the level is a bit down. Next week I'll be talking it back to the garage for a check up and see what they say about it. I have since filled it up with oil and I haven't seen any drips yet. But time will tell.
Who knows maybe it will just stop leaking and I will never have to deal with it again. HAHA FAT CHANCE !

im also kinda hoping that my startup issue is related to the frequency valve, it hard to start cold but slightly better warm but still not great. Unless I start her back up within a few minutes of being turned off. I've tested all my cold start system and its all fine, thermo switch and cold start injector are all brand new. Anyone had any experience of startup being related to anything other than the cold start usual issues?

I had a similar starting problem which came out of nowhere. It became harding to start when cold, and would need quite a few cranks before firing. Then all of a sudden it refused to start at all. I tested everything. Spark the CSV, fuel pump, relays. All fine. Someone on the UK site here suggested changing the O ring on the fuel distributor. Although the old one seemed fine on a visual inspection putting a new one solved the problem. With a new king lead on the distribution as well she was running even better than before.

Do you know it's this kind of advice that is gold to the Delorean owner? Is it a difficult job to change the o ring ? Also is is an easy part to find? I've seen kits on eBay. What do you refer to when you say King lead?
Cheers
